2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa

I think that goal (however not earned) has rejuvenated the US.

Now it’s all going to hinge on the half-time talks. Plenty of fodder for both teams, i’d wager.

If the US ends up winning this game, Robert Green might want to think about just staying in Africa.

And it makes the Brits justifiable nervous about going forward in bunches. Wouldn’t be surprised to see Capello tighten the defense.

At least there’s no chance of him getting the shit shot out of him if England gets eliminated early a la Andres Escobar. He gives up a few more soft goals like that, though, and England will be on fire by the end of the game.

Not to worry the English are good at losing

I can see USA being high on coming even, but they will have to have a solid defense to not give up another goal. I doubt we will score again, unless England falls apart.

Yep. At the very least we won’t go home goalless this time.

For those who haven’t followed England’s build-up, there has been much debate over who is our best goalkeeper, or more accurately who is our least worst. It’s an acknowledged weakness of ours. Which is not to say that that wasn’t an amazing howler.
It’s a bit of a dilemma. What do you do, replace him at half-time? The blow to confidence would be so great that you would effectively be throwing him out of the squad.

He’s still got a chance to avoid infamy. His team is going to have to get a win to save him from becoming England’s Buckner.

Not being a soccer guy, my observations are meaningless, but I think the US needs to control the ball more. They’re letting England get too many chances for comfort.

Ha, footage on ITV just now of British and American soldiers together seeing the U.S. goal in Afghanistan. Cue facepalming and wild cheering.

You were trying to get Almunia an England passport for Og’s sake!

But no, no way you take Green out. Hurts the whole team psyche to cast away a player like that.

Hart is the best by a mile, but he’s young. So I can see not starting him and putting James in. But Green? Baffled why he’s there in the first place tbh - has James had an injury that’s keeping him out of the first game?

He’ll get calmed down at HT and be OK. England have been a bag of pish there. If we played like that against a decent side we’d have no possession to speak of.

If Tim Howard were English, they’d win the Cup.

Ha. Demerit gets a demerit.

Between those damned horns in the stands and the severe weather warnings here locally, I’m not getting much commentary.

What a save!

Gorgeous STOP!!

He just proved you right. Some save!

Especially with what has to be a bruised chest.
