2010: Miss. county schools ordered to comply with desegregation order

Nobody is claiming it does, and this is always a false argument.

I spent 25 years in Wisconsin and 10 years in Mississippi. It is much, much worse in Mississippi. Don’t kid yourselves.

-Joe

And in ten years this is the first I’ve heard of it. “Well known” my ass!

Tylertown is a stone’s throw from Washington Parish. And things are just as bad there IMO.

Mississippi is 38% black, the highest percentage of black people in any state. These trends hold throughout the South as a whole. cite

Wisconsin’s population is about 6% black. cite Are you going to sit here and tell me that’s just a coincidence?

Milwaukee,Wisconsin is one of (if not the) most racially segregated cities in the country. cite Wisconsin had its share of Sundown Towns, including Fond du Lac, Appleton, and Manitowoc, each comparable in size to Charleston, West Virginia. cite

So don’t sit there and talk about how Wisconsin isn’t racist. There’s no one there to be racist against; they made sure of that. Does Mississippi have problems? YES But we’ll never know what problems a 38% black Wisconsin would have had; it was deliberately kept from happening. BECAUSE OF RACISM.

So where the fuck does America’s arrogance come from?

I think it’s a legacy from the old “pioneer spirit” attitude. Once upon a time it was useful but it hasn’t served us well in the long run.

I don’t think this is meant to be competition about who was the most racist in our recent (and not so recent) past. The big outrage here, for me is that it is two thousand and fucking ten, we have a black President and we still this shit going on on an institutional level.

“Other states are racist too!” would be a lame argument even on the kindergarten states’ playground.

I’d vote for many states to go back to kindergarten, and learn how to play well with others. Mine included.

[WAG] I’ll bet the children who were allowed to transfer to the ‘whiter’ public school used to go to Columbia Academy, and the parents got tired of paying for it. So they talked the school district into letting them transfer. [/WAG]

My first 5 words were what, again?

If you can find people on here claiming that there isn’t racism in the north, I’d love to see it.

-Joe

I concur with you Miss Elizabeth… (and let me add that you were lovely as Macho man’s valet/manager)
I spent six years patrolling one of the greatest monuments to racism this country has ever produced… see link below…

From ignorance, much of it from well meaning plans to help the AA, and in reality were destructive to the AA community.

And in many cases desegregation caused more harm then good.

Chicahojeff – A little more information would help. I’ve never seen the picture you posted, and knew nothing about it. Only by looking at your URL did I learn the name, which still didn’t help, as I’ve never heard of it. Wikipedia gave the following:

I think a lot of people have heard of Cabrini Green, but I know I never heard of Robert Taylor Homes, so your stark and impressive picture had absolutely no meaning for me, with no context.

I think raindog is referring to “harm” inflicted by desegregation on white schoolchildren and parents who weren’t actively racist but just didn’t want the quality of their schools “degraded” by an influx of black students who were less affluent and less well-prepared academically than the white students.

Poor babies.

Wait…what? Are you saying that segregation isn’t all that bad?

What you don’t know is that he has a blood feud with all bus drivers everywhere, so when he heard of forced busing he had to take the other side. Just because.

Words fail me.  :frowning:

And damn it, if that means that my (White) kids have to be bused to a school on the other side of town, well I’m all for it…oh wait.

CMC fnord!

Oh yes, America’s arrogance. As if there is no racism in any other country.
