2010 SDMB Chess Championship

ok.

that seems like uber cool.

can i get FUBS?

i’m going all in with a bishop, a rook and two pawns.

Anybody else on Chess.com can challenge me, if so desired. Dueling tunnel-vision players, maybe?

i’m there

your move

I’m on Chess.com as “bedgyro” and I just started a challenge game against your use name there. You may have challenged the jerk who took my user name before I got there.

yeh, i did. but i am kicking your rear now.

did i get it right?

Yeah, and now it’s YOUR move.

btw, is this part of the “tourney” or are we just funning it?

Just funning it. We won’t have Rd 2 until all the matches from Rd 1 are over.

Before you go all oracle-like on poor gary, let me note that d3 and b3 have been played against the Sicilian even at the GM level, in a kind of queen’s indian reversed. As long as he doesn’t open up the center too early, that can play quite straightforwardly as a ‘Clamp’ position.

Of course, he did go and open up the center…

ok, i would like to post our game here and get some commentary, however.

In a dragon position, with Black’s bishop on g7? I can’t imagine that there would be such a play in a closed sicilian game. Can you show a Sicilian game where Black has fianchettoed to g7 and White has played e4, d3, b3, and Bb2? I don’t ever recall seeing one. I know of a few that involve d4 cxd4 Nxd4 and then b3 w/ Bb2, but that’s usually in the Maroczy bind and black has played e6, not g6.

At any rate, I said slightly inaccurate. It’s not like I gave it a ? or anything.

Oh no, wait, let’s hope when Harley Starshine meets Elan’s dad, she won’t go,

You are my father!

Here’s hoping Elan’s dad approves of Harley.

Fairly early on, I gave up pieces for position. I’ll admit I made some missteps that better players would have exploited. I felt fine with my defensive set-up, even with the queen and the knights running around. When I started losing pawns to his queen, it actually opened the board up for my counter-attack when he left me unchecked (39. Nxh7).

yeh, i don’t get the whole material for position type of strategy.

i was just hoping to get a rook for a knight.

didn’t turn out very well.

Quick Question, how far ahead did you see your victory? I’m assuming it was 39, but had you seen it earlier. To be honest, I didn’t see it coming until your 40.
