That would be a very short or curt game.
In any case, I made a typo over there, it is **Cort **who forfeited, sorry about that.

Yep. I saw the Red Mist and went charging in like a nutjob!
ps. And fubbs has missed his mate opportunity. Phew!
pps. Well, one of them.
Meh. Spite checks aren’t going to save you - he’s still got you over a barrel and squealing like a little piggy.
There’s many a slip, twixt cup and lip.
“The King might die. I might die. The horse might die. And perhaps the horse will learn to sing.”
I’d like someone to point this out to me after the game - I spent about an hour on move 29 and found ways for you to disrupt about 3 approaches to mate.
But I’d prefer it was after the game.
My apologies.
No worries. Apparently the email notifications are quite delayed; when I went back to check the board about my missed mate, I found your latest move - it’s over now.
I was honestly expecting something more like Ree7 at 30 from you, just to be troublesome; a4 actually made this quicker for us both.
Has anyone heard from Mind Wanderer? I’ve been waiting for his latest move, and his time has run out.
Yeah, after that move I noticed that it was mate in 2.
I guess for the next round I will also set an account at GameKnot, I’m waiting for the next round to be set.
So ya, I guess you don’t even need an account there to view the game, and there’s a link to the PGN if anyone’s looking to import it:
It’s been years since I’ve played, and I was never terribly good at it, mostly due to impatience; I really enjoyed this.
Can someone remind me what the format is for this tournament? Is it a league or a knockout thing?
It’s a swiss system with 5 rounds. If you won, you’ll play other people that won. Then in the third round, people that have 2 points will play other 2-pointers. The 1s will play 1s, and the 0s will play 0s. So while you’re theoretically paired against a skilled opponent the first time around, the schedule adjusts itself to your performance. In theory, if you lose, you get an easier opponent next time. As soon as board 1 finishes, I think that’s the end of round 1. It only took a week…cool. I’ll have to wait til I get home to do the next pairing.
I say we remove MindWanderer and Cort from the tournament all together. It keeps us at an even # of players and I don’t have to figure out how to do byes.
Our game is still going, but I can play more than one at a time. If you need to assess status for next round pairings, here’s where it stands currently.
I think what Maser is trying to say is that I’m screwed and only barely have a chance for a draw.
Yes…that pawn is about to become a mighty queen. I blame the influence of alcohol!
Ed-**Autolycus **is only on move 11 and is still very unclear so we still have to wait on that. Assuming Edward the Head wins, Rd 2 will be:
GIGOBuster 1 Maserschmidt 1
Chessic Sense 1 Edward the Head 1
Hamlet 1 Malacandra 1
fubbleskag 1 Oredigger77 0
peekercpa 0 Garygnu 0
Autolycus 0 Ivan Astikov 0
Two players dropping out kinda threw a wrench into the works, because now we’ve got 7 winners and only 5 losers. I don’t know if a bye win counts as a real win and thus you get ranked in the winners, or a fake win and thus you get paired in a sub-1-point bracket. But I said “to hell with it” and just made the bracket as if they count as real wins. It’s not like there’s money on this thing. If I’m wrong, you can have my cat.
But if GIGO and Maser want to get a game started, there’s a 50% chance it’ll count (i.e. if **Edward **wins.) Same goes for everyone but Ivan and me.
Your faith in my skills is touching
I see Andor Lilienthal just died at the very ripe old age of 99. He beat several World Champions (and ex- ) in his career, including Emanuel Lasker, who lifted the title back in the 1890s!
I just challenged Malacandra (Gil-Gandel) at Chess.com for our second round game.
I’m going to be sans internet for the next week, but I’ll try to find some WiFi spots to make moves and keep up. Best of luck.
