2010: "The Pacific." Spielberg and Hanks' New Project's Trailer is Out.

Right. The Thin Red Line is so divorced from even simple understanding of cause-and-effect, let alone narrative, that it serves mostly as a documentary on the availabilty and effects of cocaine on Hollywood directing snobs than a movie at all, let alone a war movie.

I’m not talking about “they used the wrong terrain” although they did, or “they cut out a lot of elements necessary to understanding what was going on” but something worse. Scene after dadaist scene that violated any sensible understanding of how people interact and even how simple physical laws operate – offensively stupid direction and editing.

For just the tiniest taste of what I’m talking about (and I have much more to say about this hateful clunker’s disrespect for its audience) I’ll recycle my previous critique fragment: Behold The Thin Red Line

I feel the majority of that trailer could be cut together from earlier films.

And it looks like the lead is played by Joseph Mazzello, the grown up annoying child actor from Jurassic Park and Simon Birch. I’d sooner payer to see a grown Jake Lloyd act in a WWII flick.

Which unit or forrmation does the drama follow?

To be fair, it’s a “teaser trailer”, meant to show the show’s style and look and not so much plot. This trailer came out in July, hopefully we’ll get a new more plot-ish trailer before the end of the year.

Happened to read the book last weekend. Amazing history of one Marine’s survival through Hell. Well worth reading.
