I agree with your hopes. I will be cheering for Roger 100% the whole time.
Great start for Federer. He’s up a break at 5-2 with Nadal serving.
This has turned very bad for Federer.
He’s getting killed now.
And then Nadal threw it into another gear. won the last 5 games to take the set.
Fed looks deflated. I hope he can suck it up. It will be a shame if Fed never wins a match against Nadal at Roland Garros.
Go Fed!
Wow, such a turn of events in set 1.
Nadal is looking like the Nadal of last year. Fed’s body language is terrible. It’s amazing what a mental game tennis is. First Djokovic folds like a pup tent because Fed takes a set, and now Fed is struggling to keep his confidence up against Nadal.
I don’t care who wins, but I’m pulling a bit for Nadal just because the crowd is so obviously rooting for Federer.
Poor Roger. He had that first set in his grasp and really should have grabbed it. Right now it’s looking like another easy Nadal win. Every grand slam that Nadal wins especially against Federer, brings him closer to the GOAT argument. Another 3 or 4 slams and he will have a very strong case.
A break to Federer and it’s 4-4 in the second. Could he possibly climb back into this?
Fed breaks back and ties second set at 4-4.
Nevermind. Nadal breaks back.
Nadal is playing very intelligently. The way he’s attacking Fed’s backhand is painful to watch.
And Fed isn’t helping his case with the concentration lapses. Oh Federer.
But, now, Federer has won the fourth set.
A fool’s hope, perhaps, but some hope for Roger.
I can’t watch it! I have it on and occasionally wander in to the room to see how its going, then I have to leave again. Too stressful for me!
Federer wins the third. He missed a big opportunity with those break points in the first game of the fourth, and right now he’s down 0-30 in the fourth game. Still, he’s done a good job of hanging with Nadal. At points like this in the past, he’s gotten discouraged and gone away a bit.
Good for Nadal. The man is a machine.
Kind of an anticlimactic ending, but glad that Nadal was able to get his mojo back. Also glad that Fed could play the spoiler.
I’m really hoping that Djokovic’s butt thrashing by Federer won’t derail him a la Andy Murray. He really was playing fantastic tennis.
I hope Murray’s ankle is better by the time Wimbledon starts but it’s not looking good.
Oh, and the women’s final was rather lackluster, too. Schiavone just didn’t have it in her. But both women were classy and a breath of fresh air.
Nadal was excellent, and Federer really made a match of it. He couldn’t quite get over the hump but it was a very strong match for three sets and definitely the best of their French Open finals. Having tasted this much success I don’t think Djokovic is going to fall too far back. He was the best player in the world for about five months and still has a very good chance to get the #1 ranking soon. He looked frustrated against Federer at times but I don’t think he’s going to forget everything he figured out about his game. And if Federer’s more aggressive style continues to pay dividends that will make things even more interesting. I think the question is whether or not Murray can keep up, and does del Potro continue to mount a comeback.
Nadal is the winner always…
