Standards. There generally aren’t many mouth breathing sister fuckers on the Dope.
Ummm, I take back that “sister fuckers” comment.
I caught snippets of his last one, and he was in prime form. From throwing his players and coaches under the bus to declaring that he needed to have more power in order to win, it was like listening into the head of Machiavelli.
Not counting compensatory picks (they may get a couple third and fourth rounders), the Raiders don’t have a pick until the 5th round this year, and may have to give away their first next year. It may take awhile, especially if they move back to LA.
Jeff Fisher appears to have finally gotten off the pot and picked the Rams. Now the Dolphins are butt-hurt. Stephen Ross is shaping up to be one of the worst owners in sports.
I thought it was clear Fisher was going to the Rams and was only toying with the idea of Miami to get more out of St Louis..
I can’t remember where I read the article, but a writer a couple weeks ago made some very good points about why Fisher would end up in St Louis.
As he learned in Tennessee, it’s hard to win without a franchise QB. It’s easier to build around Sam Bradford than Matt Moore (or whoever the QB of the week is around there).
It was clear from the get-go that Miami was sticking with Jeff Ireland for another season, and few good candidates were going to accept that.
Miami is a pit in terms of NFL towns. The fanbase is fickle, and you’ll be expected to produce a winner within 1 or 2 seasons after being dealt a bad hand in terms of personnel, GM, and fan expectations.
You really want to get your ass kicked by Bill Belichick and Rex Ryan on a regular basis? Better to have the occasional win over SF and be competitive with Arizona and Seattle in one of the weakest divisions in the NFL.
And the Jags hired Bob Bratkowski, former Bengals OC and Falcons QB coach, to be their new OC! Shovel pass on third and long, here it comes!
And I think that the Dolphins are going to hire Mike Zimmer, former DC in Dallas and current DC of the Bengals away from Cincinnati to be their new head coach.
On a similar thought, I’m stealing this from Simmons Mailbag today.
Pretty much exactly sums up my earlier sentiments exactly. The fact that Brian Schottenheimer might actually be a good coach and would come along for the ride only solidifies that.
If anyone is interested, Gregg Williams has already decided to leave the Saints DC job to join best buddy Jeff Fisher in St. Louis.
All in all, I’m scoring this a win for both sides (all three sides?). The Saints needed a change and I think Williams’ blitz like crazy at all times strategy is pretty dumb, especially for a team that’s as offensively explosive as the Saints are. Getting a more even minded DC in town is the right move, perhaps even a Tampa-2 type guy. They’ll have to make quite a few personnel changes for that though. For the Rams, it’s probably a very good move in the short term. They have some decent players up front and some issues on the back end. They could use a guy who can give them a spark and use some hyper-aggressive schemes to offset some gaps in talent. I wager it’s a short term solution but I think they’ll get a little better before then. It’s good for Williams since he may not have been getting a contract offer from New Orleans and Fisher gets to bring in a experienced guy he trusts.
PFT is speculating that Spagnuolo could be a candidate for the Saints opening. It will be interesting to see what Spags chooses, but you’d have to think that the Saints give him the best odds for a title.
Considering how shitty the coaching candidates are around the league, I wouldn’t have been remotely surprised to see him getting an offer even after another failure. The prospects of him moving to a college also seemed to be interesting. Guess the guy is tired of the grief. I didn’t realize that he was 61 though, he seemed younger than that.
Martz wasn’t good as a head coach, but his personality and offensive system pretty much required GM-level authority. I don’t think he was able to handle being part of a larger system.
Yeah, you’re right about that. That’s part of the reason his shtick might stick in a college. For all intents he’d be a GM but wouldn’t have to handle any of the business requirements or work within a system like he would in the NFL.
Fisher’s contract with the Rams will be worth $35 million over five years. What’s the over-under on Fisher completing that contract or giving the team a return of $1 million per win?
