2015-16 Barclays Premier League Thread

It depends on whether Leicester hold onto their players. Barring some complete meltdown(not impossible) I would expect them to get past the group stages. Im assuming they will be first seeds in their group. Once you reach the knock-out stage it’s a fine line between success and failure.

Well done Southampton!

And cheers MCFC!

Spurs not in great form to end the season, dropping seven points in the last 3 games. Still, just need one point off Newcastle and it won’t matter! Wouldn’t have wanted to have nothing to play for in the final week anyway, right? Right?

Another thing i love about Leicester’s win is the Andy King story.

He’s been with Leicester his whole career, and he becomes the first player to win each of the three top divisions (League One; Championship; Premier League) with the same club. Pretty amazing stuff.

Earning a point away at Etihad?

We’ll take it, thank you very much.

It was a great match, too. Aside from the Gunners not winning.

The City-Arsenal draw is a great result for United, who after a frustrating and hard-fought campaign now finally have their fate in their own hands. As in, if they win their final two games they will qualify for the Champions League (unless City win this year AND Liverpool win the Europa League - which is quite possible). Their final game, at home against Bournemouth, ought to be a formality - Bournemouth have only pride to play for, unless the players/management have some kind of bonus depending on exactly where they finish in the table. Even then you’d have to back United to win that one. Going to West Ham tomorrow will be trickier, but I still believe they can do it. I’m fully prepared for having my hopes crushed one more time though.

City got knocked out of the CL last week, didn’t they? After barely managing a shot on goal, being fairly abject and scoring an own goal?

Ha, whoops - of course they did. Shows how much I care about United’s so-called rivals - even after this season I still consider Chelsea and Arsenal greater rivals, but that’s because I have only followed the sport for the last 25 years, for much of which United’s traditional rivals of Liverpool and City have not been challenging for top honours.

Anyway, one less potential pitfall to worry about. I’m far more concerned about West Ham getting all emotional over their last game at Upton Park and putting on a classic performance.

Quoted for truth.

LOL. Only a supporter of Manchester United could say this with a straight face.

In the 25 years or so since the start of the Premier League, Man U. have:

  • won the Premier League 13 times
  • won the FA Cup four times, with a shot at #5 this year
  • won the League Cup four times
  • won the Champions League twice

You’ll forgive me if i don’t cry too many tears at the possibility that you might have your “hopes crushed one more time.” It must be a terrible burden, to be so constantly on the verge of despair.

Well, fuck. Well played West Ham. Fuck the hooligans who tried to spoil the occasion.

I’m not looking for sympathy and of course won’t get any. I was just referring to the last couple of seasons - particularly this one - when Van Gaal has continually given false hope that the team is just turning the corner. Of course I can cope with a few years of ‘only’ finishing in the top six with the odd cup here and there, riches beyond what most teams can dream of. I also don’t think any team has an automatic right to be successful. But for any football fan, any loss/draw by their team is annoying, that’s just the way it is.

As a Tottenham supporter you can have my sympathy - for flushing $400 million around the U bend:

Can’t agree with this. Van Gaal has never at any time looked like he can get that team playing, his performance has been awful since day one and has never looked like turning any corner. The best anybody can point to is a good game here and there, in the main performances have been dire.

I think we’re seeing the same thing but I have put an optimist’s spin on it. As in, I see what looks like a decent performance and think there is more to come. Which hasn’t happened, which tends to suggest you’re right!

I think I just heard the distant jangling of St. Totteringham, stirring from his slumber…

Arsenal are going to be Fucking insufferable. :frowning:

Oh god Spurs. Amazing.

Happy St. Totteringham’s Day, everybody!!!

Happy St. Totteringham’s Day!

Spurs
