2015-16 Barclays Premier League Thread

Don’t worry, I still hate them. The fury is just not as intense as for the other sides I mentioned.

It works the same for me as a Man U fan - having grown up when their traditional rivals Liverpool and City were basically irrelevant (early 90s), I don’t hate either of them (certainly not Liverpool - I now hate City a lot more since they stole the title from us a couple of years back largely thanks to Joey ******* Barton). Whereas I used to hate Arsenal (and Wenger) something fierce - not any more, now it’s usually pity :). Not a good time to be making that statement, I know.

But at least we can all agree that Chelski are worst of all.

Red Devils should hate Barca, for the two absolute European Cup final rogerings they provided.

Looks like Klopp is in for the Reds.

Sad, I always liked him.

I don’t like Barca, but mainly because I don’t find their style of football very interesting to watch. Real Madrid are my Spanish club team of choice, though I don’t really follow it at all. The two recent final defeats were simply an example of succumbing to a better team, in one of them it looked like we might snatch it but it was never a realistic possibility.

I would only hate them if they did something like winning by virtue of getting away with a blatant bit of cheating (viz Argentina '86, I still can’t forgive Maradona for that even though I was only a year old at the time).

Jurgen Klopp’s now officially the new Liverpool manager. It’s quite a coup for the club to get him since, despite their illustrious history, Liverpool aren’t currently a top English, let alone European, side.

Such is Klopp’s current standing that if he’d waited a little longer until a managerial vacancy became available at one of the top European clubs he’d have been one of the first names on the shortlist. I’m sure most Manchester United fans would take him over Van Gaal at the drop of a hat and many Arsenal fans would take him over Wenger too.

He’s got oodles of charisma - if it weren’t for the giveaway American accent at the start, I’d have believed this was him - and a huge cathedral-like mouth that can do crazy things. The English press are going to adore him in a way they did Jose Mourinho in his first Chelsea stint, when he was still able to project a thin veneer of charm.

He’s got quite a challenge on his hands to transform Liverpool into a title-winning side, but Liverpool’s American owners have shown that they are prepared to front up the big bucks (even if they’ve spent that money poorly in recent years, buying mediocre players at inflated prices). Since Chelsea have started the season so badly, Klopp’s got an excellent chance of getting the fourth place Champions League spot, bringing Liverpool back into Europe’s elite competition, for a season at least.

Exciting times for Liverpool fans.

Don’t you think that this Liverpool team has top 4 talent though? Klopp’s whole deal is player development, I wouldn’t imagine that he would get immediate results. Especially since his style of football is so distinct. My question would be, can he bandage this team together well enough to have a respectable finish and a top 4 run next year? Though I agree Chelsea seem out of it, leaving a top 4 spot open, it seems to me that Liverpool was failing due to lack of talent as much as anything.

The way the League is shaping up, with the big sides stumbling week after week, it would be hardly a miracle to get top 4 with this Liverpool. Let alone European football.

And then, next season, he can start working his magic with new signings. Liverpool does have oodles of money, they just invest it haphazardly in players like Balotelli.

I agree, I don’t like the Luis Enrique crew, but Pep’s boys were a pleasure to watch. The United games reminded one of Frank Bruno and Mike Tyson, Frank Bruno was a great boxer, but he was terrified of Tyson and Man U were totally phyched out by Barca.

Not as much a coup, rather their past helping them out, many managers of today grew up supporting the dominant sides of the 70’s and 80’s and that makes Liverpool an attractive proposition, they got Rafa back in 2004 for the same reason.

Indeed. Imagine being known as the man who steered Liverpool back to the top? That’d be huge!

Rafa Benitez has made a whole career out of one 8 minute spell, which did just that.

Chelsea lose again, and Arsenal are top of the Premier League table, as is right, proper, and good.

Also, Mourwhingeho got sent off. Comedy gold!

I keep going back and forth - a draw would be good, but so would a United win I think. I still think City are a far greater threat for the title than United are.

Solid showing by Arsenal today - Cech has shown the last two matches why a truly “world class” goalkeeper can make all the difference. Today is a draw without him, IMO.

Oxlade-Chamberlain is really pressing though. With Ramsey out for awhile, and Wilshere seemingly permanently broken, I’m a bit worried about the right side of the attack. Walcott has looked so good up top recently that I’d hate to push him out wide again, but Chambo really needs to get his head up and start moving the ball a bit more. I’m also a big fan of the “plan B” striking option off the bench (Walcott vs Giroud). Saw a bit of that with Andy Carroll in the West Ham/Chelsea match today.

Also, Ozil is magnificent. Folks that still call him lazy need to wake up - he’s run his ass off this season.

I don’t think so. It was an excellent first half that gave me hope that maybe things had changed, and a lousy second half where the players started getting nervous, losing the plot and allowing Everton to get chance after chance. This proves why we aren’t ready to win the title yet.

Here’s a good article about the corrupt practices of the original Franchise FC from Woolwich.

That’s one thing we can agree on…

For God’s sake, man: stop! Your interminable anti-Arsenal posts are just making Spurs fans look utterly pathetic. It’s getting embarrassing now…

Meanwhile, Mourinho’s hard times continued this week with losses in the league and League Cup, getting banished to the stands by the referee, misconduct charges from the F.A. and unwelcome media coverage of him pushing a teenager in the street. Social media’s having lots of fun with his unravelling - my fave.

Klopp the Messiah is still yet to inaugurate Liverpool’s Resurrection, having drawn his first three games.

Arsenal are now joint top of the league on points, consigned to second place on goal difference. Oh, and they also beat one of the top two teams in world football this week - Bayern Munich.

Sheffield Wednesday??

BWA HAH HAH HAH HAH!!!

How the hell is Arteta not a Spanish international?
