Being widely reported that he’s stepping down. Jesus Christ, what an embarrassment - almost feel sorry for the filthy bungmeister.
I think the way forward for England is now crystal clear - we need to disband the national side for the forseeable future. The football is shite. The players are shite. The managers are shite. The FA are shite. It’s an international shite circus that should just be thrown into the sea in its entirety.
I am not sure I understand the controversy. Is it just that he agreed to act a a consultant for a group that was spending money on Football while he was the England manager?
I get the conflict of interest I suppose. That’s bad. But all the rest, third party ownership, saying things about the FA and players, I don’t know if I understand it.
Someone of previous impeccable character might, have gotten away with being stung like this - it’s certainly bad but not an outrageous insta-sacking offense like throwing a match or something. Most sports writers were calling it 50:50 as to whether he’d make it through today.
BigSam is seen as being a bit on the shady side already, though, so he’s in a hole as far as trying to bullshit his way out of it. The public ear is not really at his disposal. It just looks like he’s been in the job 5 minutes and is already balls deep in schemes to line his own pockets.
A point of comparison is the snooker player John Higgins, who was secretly filmed discussing the throwing of games with Russian (IIRC) businessmen. If you saw the video you’d think it was his career 100% dead and buried, absolutely no way back from it. He did get off with just a reprimand, though, because he was widely seen as an honest player, good character, who had just allowed himself to be put in a very bad situation.
Not simply a group that was spending money on football, but a group that indicated it had third party ownership of players (basically, owning the players rights and the transfer fee goes to them, then the club), which is illegal in FIFA, while telling them how they could circumvent FIFA’s rules on third party ownership. In addition, if they represent players, being the England manager is a MASSIVE conflict of interest - consider that Allerdyce is in position to call up players who are part-owned by this firm, which would raise the value of those players. All in all, very slimy corruption.
Ah,that’s a part that didn’t click. I think it was my lack of understanding of third party ownership that kept the penny from dropping. I didn’t realize that he was in a position to call up players that this group owned. I assumed it was a group looking to buy a club.
They aren’t. Still, this was a great first half of football. One of the most exciting I have seen this season. City is really good. I’m not at all confident about the only having a 2-0 lead.
Golden opportunity for Team GB to take over the football? Well, it would be were it not for the (completely understandable) opposition of the Scottish, Welsh, and Irish FAs. Interestingly, croquet recently went through the reverse process (a GB team devolving into separate entities at the top level). Some supported it as it allowed the smaller nations to stand on their own, others opposed it as it may mean we don’t see a non-English player at the elite level for many years.
Welcome to Bob Bradley - appointed Swansea manager and first American to coach in the English top division. He’s certainly got a job on his hands, but he knows how to set up a football team and to maximise the talent at his disposal. Be interested to see how he does.
