Fritz Weaver, dead at 90.
He was great in Fail Safe.

I’m really beginning to hate this year.
Twilight Zone-“The Obsolete Man”
STDS9: “Tribunal”
An actor’s actor. Never destined for stardom, but good enough to work regular for a long time.
RIP, sir and thanks for the memories.
Always good wherever he appeared. He had a very small role in “Marathon Man,” and it was enough to make you think he was a real history professor.
No doubt he’s dancing now with Mona Bern in that big EEPR in the sky. :o RIP.
His role in Holocaust made quite an impression on me. I never forgot his performance even when the roles of much more famous actors slipped my mind.
First thing I saw him in, he was the go-to guy to out-pretentious Frasier Crane.
Because of course he was.
A tremendous character actor. He always turned in a good performance in whatever role he played.
He’s one of those “Oh-- that guy” character actors. RIP, guy.
Apparently he won a Tony.
He narrated quite a few documentaries also. I think I’ve heard him as much as I’ve seen him.
I just saw him in The Martian Chronicles. He had one of the few roles that wasn’t over-the-top.
RIP, Fritz.
In “The Crate” episode of George Romero’s/Stephen King’s Creepshow, he gave Hal Holbrook the idea of feeding his harridan wife (Adrienne Barbeau) to the Tasmanian Devil.
Some of that was filmed at CMU, and I got to photograph Adrienne Barbeau and Hal Holbrook for the CMU newspaper, the Tartan. Didn’t get to meet Fritz, though - none of his scenes were filmed on campus.
That’s the first role I thought of.
He did a turn in one of the creepier Night Galleries. Can’t remember what it was called, but it also had a pre-comedic Leslie Nielsen and revolved around Nielsen’s character spending a night in a haunted house.
And this: - YouTube
In the spirit of the season.
Are you sure that wasn’t Horlicks University? ![]()
That epi was called, “A Question of Fear,” and it scared the ever-lovin’ Bejesus out of me. During one of NG’s syndication runs, that epi had 15 minutes shaved off it and it didn’t make a lick of sense. Netflix or Hulu has NG as we speak. It’s still fun.
And remember: There aren’t any more McBanes.
Is THAT what was supposed to be in the crate? I just thought it was a generic monster. I remember Siskel and Ebert reviewing Creepshow, and they said, “If something’s been locked in a box for a hundred years, don’t open the box!”
I had no idea he was that old.
I have some audiobooks read by him – his voice is perfect for reading books. He does a great job on Macchiavelli’s The Prince.
