Oops, guess I missed a line.
When Jordan got tired of winning, he changed sports, in order to remember what it feels like to NOT be the GOAT.

Last I checked, basketball is a team game, so maybe the teams that beat Lebron’s Cavs were just a better team. The Celtics of 2008 thrashed the Lakers and really should have won the title again in 2010, so there’s no shame in losing when his supporting cast was made up of guys like Verajao. There’s no free trip to the Finals, either. Teams figure out strengths and weaknesses of a team when playing in a 7 game series as a opposed to playing 2 or 3 nights out of a week. And last I looked, Lebron has won 3 championships. He can definitely hack it in big games.
That is NOT why MJ changed sports and tried his hand at baseball.
You need to read-up on him. Maybe his bio.
His move to Baseball had everything to do with his father’s sudden death.
Hope this helps.
I would say that Michael Jordan probably had a better killer instinct than Lebron. There’s no stat for that – just an eye test sorta thing. But it’s not like Lebron doesn’t have that himself. His 50+ point explosion against the Pistons in 2007 was one example and there are others that we could point to as well.
People comment as though MJ never lost in the post-season. I remember his teams struggling quite a lot for the better part of 4 years to get past the Detroit Pistons, a team that really didn’t have any explosive scorers other than Isaiah Thomas. And if he didn’t have another guy named Pippen who could defend and also take it to the bucket, it’s hard to see how Jordan would have much of a championship resume.
If he got tired of winning, then he isn’t this demigod of winning that he’s made out to be.
I don’t know about all of this. MJ certainly had the ability to get to the basket and score at will. I agree about assists and rebounds, MJ was a selfish me-first player compared to LeBron. Lebron is also bigger and stronger than Michael was, helping him scrape boards better. But MJ also had Rodman to do that kind of work for him, and to wage psychological war against whomever he was defending. I wonder how well Lebron would fare under the basket with The Worm guarding him and whispering into his ear all game long. And for defense, I think Michael’s defense was excellent, and is the most forgotten part of his game.
I consider them equals at this stage, both with pros and cons. Plus, Michael could fly.
It’s tough to compare the eras though. One of the major problems Jordan’s 1980’s teams had when playing the Pistons was the allowance of a much more physical style of play that isn’t allowed anymore. The Pistons would maul Jordan over and over and he kept scraping himself up off the hardwood. And yes, he didn’t have as good of a team around him then as he did later, but neither did LeBron until he went to Miami.
Anyone else feeling like Cleveland is going to seriously regret all these missed free throws later?
Even though pretty much everything else isn’t going Golden State’s way, it’s still the 1st quarter and no lead seems safe against the Warriors.
Maybe they’ll peter out, but with the energy the Cavs are playing with tonight… it’s really too bad they lost by one point the other night. 2-2 would’ve been a good place to be after tonight.
The funny thing is that if the Warriors win this year it won’t be nearly as heralded as the Cavs win last year. Last year the storyline was so much better, the Cavs made the amazing 3-1 comeback, beating the unanimous MVP who were playing for the best season ever after finishing 73-9 by pouring their heart and souls into it and bringing a championship to a city who hasn’t seen one in 60 years.
In comparison, the storyline on this year’s warriors is going to be “added one of the best players in the league who was blatantly ring chasing, who joined them because he couldn’t beat them, because the NBA had a fluke year with a salary cap to be able to sign him. Won as expected. NBA is boring.”
If you have all the money you’ll ever need what’s wrong with “ring chasing?”
It’s just that he should have done it with the Cavs instead of GS
The Cavs will be chasing after their own ring-chaser after this series.
I was catching up on the Game of Zones season and the finale just came out. Funny stuff.
This is older, but I just found it: Superteam: A Warriors Musical.
One could nitpick LeBron in this series, but GSW is ridiculous. Sometimes I think they would annihilate most “greatest of all time” teams just because of the evolution of the three point game, plus they’re stacked with two way players when most other teams have guys who only shoot threes or only play defense. Would be interesting to transport them back in time and have them play with older rulesets, without zones.
I thought the LeBron-Jordan comparisons would stop after 2011. Jordan doesn’t get outplayed by Jason Terry, or get checked by an elderly Kidd. LeBron is more like an evolution of Magic than anyone else. Wade and Kobe were more like Jordan, especially with Wade’s proclivity for blocking shots and making circus layups.
Jordan’s mid-range game is superior to LeBron’s. He had better footwork, step backs, pump fakes, up and unders, spins, leaners, bank shots, you name it. Don’t think I’ve ever seen LeBron wave the ball around in one hand and fake out the defender. LeBron’s bulky physique is nice for driving and bouncing defenders off him, but it hinders splitting double teams, sliding past defenders, slows his first step, and probably contributes to his history of running out of gas in late game situations since he insists on playing out on the perimeter so much.
One thing LeBron is probably GOAT at is chase down blocks. It’s hilarious when players freak out when they realize he’s behind them. I think it was Klay in game 3 who almost killed himself trying to dunk it as soon as he could so LeBron wouldn’t embarrass him. D-Rob is up there too.
MJ was simply the best. Certainly his postseason scoring record will never be beaten.
Wow it looks like they switched jerseys. Cleveland knocking down three after three, Golden State pushing it inside, and mostly succeeding, but they’re scoring twos, which the Cavs will gladly give them all night as long as they keep making their own triples, and the Warriors are making a lot of mistakes and losing possessions. Going to be an interesting second half; see if the Cavs cool off and/or the Warriors wake up.
The refs were obviously told to string this series out, but I don’t think it would’ve mattered - Cavs are hitting everything tonight.
The Cavs killed it. Stifling defense, and unstoppable offense. They were a juggernaut tonight, from tipoff to the final buzzer.
Yeah when one team shoots 60% from 3 and the other shoots 30% it’s pretty much a done deal. But holy shit was this a terribly officiated game. The first quarter was super one-sided in the calls and dug the Warriors in a hole, and then Cleveland was unconscious at shooting from then on out. Of course the refs decided to double down with some more terrible calls for both sides (what the hell was up with that Draymond “oh actually the tech was on Kerr?” business?). Just awful.
The “Don’t let this distract you from the fact that the Warriors blew a 3-1 series lead” meme was incredibly old and annoying, but it would sure be something to see a new edition: “Don’t let this distract you from the fact that the Warriors blew a 3-0 series lead.”
That T was on Kerr. On that play, Green got a foul, a regular foul, not a T. It was Kerr who got the T for walking out onto the floor to argue the call. Apparently the stat sheet at halftime was wrong and showed Green with a T.
Golden State Salary: ~$100 million
Cleveland Salary: ~$126 million, $12 million more than the next highest team
The Cavaliers are paying a Kevin Durant MORE than the Warriors. The Warriors could accidentally pay Curry the kind of dough LeBron is getting, and STILL spend less than the Cavaliers.
KD got tired of OKC’s front office being terrible and left. Given that he’s already made more money than most people know what to do with, he went to the best place he could to get some hardware. It’s James to Miami all over again, except Durant didn’t have to recruit other All-Stars to the team.
As to the game…holy shit. Night and day differences, and I’m interested to see how this plays out back in Oakland. Can we fire the refs, though? This is NFL replacement ref level trash at this point.
The Warriors blowing a 3-0 lead would make the most powerful sports meme of all time.
Oh man would it be glorious.
Also that first half foul was on Green. No idea what the hell was up with that one. Did they retroactively change what it was to prevent his ejection?
