2019 Time Person of the Year

In the end, what difference did he make? The Trumpublicans yelled “exoneration!” and the Dems massively shrugged, so everybody who’d been undecided assumed his report was a nothingburger.

If the Ukraine stuff hadn’t come to light, the Dems would still be going, “oh, we’ll impeach him next November at the ballot box.”

Gotta be Steven Strasburg.

I really hope they make the most random completely generic choice like they have occasionally in the past just to make people who take it way too seriously mad. Like “The American Farmer” or “The Firefighters” or some guy a week before publication who rescues 20 children caught in a flood.

Maybe for Sportsperson of the year, but not for Person of the Year.

Do you think anyone really takes it seriously? To me it’s like a high school award. I don’t even think the winner gets money. It’s not like winning an Oscar or a Grammy where you’re going to get more royalties.

Thunberg has lost a lot of support lately with her demands for another boat back to Europe for the climate change summit. The heart is in the right place, but she’s becoming a one trick pony.

Man of the Century, of course, is already taken.

Could be a collective group of Trump’s least favorite people. Pelosi, Mueller, the whistle-blower, etc. You know, people trying to save American democracy.

My money is on “The Squad.” The media drools over them at every possible chance.

Quick bump as the announcement is being made tomorrow. Really tough one as impeachment has dominated the last couple of months. The U.K. election won’t be known so that eliminates Boris Johnson, plus Time is a USA magazine and most people aren’t paying attention to Brexit. As I mentioned above, Thunberg has worn a little thin on a lot of people’s minds. I think it’ll be Pelosi. She deftly managed all the threats to being elected speaker from the left and right of her party back in January and didn’t rush to impeachment on day one. She’s distanced herself from the AOC wing of the party that demands radical change right this second without the votes to accomplish it. Impeachment is hitting Trump right at the perfect time politically and impeachment is always a political act at the presidential level. Plus, it may help her party unify against Trump rather than all the petty intraparty squabbling that we’ve had since 2016.

And we have a winner!

I voted for Greta, but then I knew she had already won. Good choice in my opinion. If the whistleblower had revealed himself, then he/she gets the nod. Kinda hard to give it to an unknown person.

Terrible choice. Her 15 minutes is already over.

IMO you’re wrong twice that post, TriPolar.

500,000 people came to see her talk in Madrid five days ago. I don’t think her five minutes are nearly over.

And I’m so happy to see she was chosen. I think that a 16 year old who has garnered this much attention in 150 countries and has, from what I’ve seen, inspired a generation to pay attention to the scientists instead of the politicians many of their parents have chosen to trust makes her a perfect choice. It’s not the best or worst person, it’s the person they feel has made the biggest impact this year on the world, not just the U.S.

:smack:

Extra, extra: Trump thinks she has anger management problems. Superb choice.

She must control her anger problems because he certainly can’t control his own. :smack:
