I’ve heard ‘rumors’ about all kinds of changes on the way, including a bunch of redevelopment at the Cal base, with only remote parking, down about where you were, bottom of Ski Run.
So, pay, and then get to ride a fuckin’ shuttle anyway. Not gonna happen for me!
Bridger got a foot last night on top of the bit yesterday. Good skiing! The whole town turned out, for sure. Got my morning powder fix and bailed when the noon crowds showed up. Took my 2010 S7s out–still great powder skis!
Skiied yesterday. Was shit. Ice Boulders with cement in the troughs. Stuck to the flat shit instead. Only went to take the kid up, since he got his car stolen. Still managed a bazillion verticle.
Made it to SLC, with skis and boots. Off to the mountains tomorrow. A little fresh snow fell yesterday, a bit more forecast for Sun/Mon and then a little more later in the week.
The super condor lift way off the far right of the Canyons area is generally pretty good. Long fastblift, lines not too bad and a decent range of runs off of it.
A big curving blue for everyone, the fast roller coaster down under the lift, devils friend moguls, applande which was always a groomed fast steepish run , snow draw was a bowl that can have some decent snow. The south face chutes like lone pine are probably not in any condition, but in a snow year they are awesome. Like wise the north facing tree routes are good good conditions, but tight ski wreakers when not. You can boot up murdochs peak if snow is ok, and there is always cannis lupus , which is a gully run much loved by small kids with 3 ft skis and snowborders , its ugly.
One day i just skiied that chair about 15 times dawn to dusk
Ok caveat , it always had short lines whne i was last there, but that may not be true today.
Dreamscape has a lot of options but it was a slow chair.
The aspen gladed runs off tombstone and saddleback are fun, if you are on the canyons side always watch for the cut outs off the piste down , sticking to the pistes can get a bit pedestrain .
Also if you hit up 9990, take a traverse out to the red pine bowl, it is side country but avy controllled as it drops onto some mains ski areas . Drop through the pines after the gate or go far to the emd, the middle zone has some cliffs.
I never realy like the PC side , but jupiter bowl and some of the hikes along the ridge were good.
Lived there for 5 years 2009 - 2015 and skiied a lot but was last back in 2018 so out of date info.
Just back from a week in Utah. We stayed in Wolf Creek for the first part of trip, skiing two days at Powder Mountain and one day at Snowbasin. Then off to Canyons at Park City to stay with my sister at their timeshare.
We got a bit of snow most every night, including 4-5" at Snowbasin and at least 6" at Pow Mow. Powder Mountain is vast, and we skied the trees nearly every run, finding fresh tracks in a lot of places, and soft snow everywhere. And the aspen trees were spaced perfectly for fast low angle tree skiing. I was pleasantly surprised by Snowbasin, we got fresh snow the night before and aside from the complete lack of visibility in Strawberry the whole place skied well.
After a well earned rest day we had three days at Park City which we did as Canyons/PC/Canyons. Big place, lots and lots of people, not the best laid out lift system, more snow would be helpful. We skied Peak 5 and 9990 a bit, but they really could use more snow to make some of those runs more enjoyable. 9990 in particular was impressive but we were skiing it on tired legs, not a great combination. McConkey’s skied well, but we didn’t hit Jupiter. We took the bus from Canyons to PC, jammed in like sardines, so the prospect of going back on the last day didn’t appeal. Coming down to the the base of PC in the late afternoon was literally the most people I’ve seen on a ski slope in my life.
We’ve just confirmed all of our details for a ski trip over Easter.
We’ve not been able to get to the slopes since Xmas 2019 but now that all restrictions (more or less) have been removed from the countries we are passing through then all systems are go. We just all need to be fully vaccinated and we are off.
We’re driving from the UK to Austria, through France and Germany. We’ve got an apartment in the centre of Zell am Zee for two weeks and will be buying the area lift ticket which gives us access to Zell itself, Saalbach-Hinterglemm and the Glacier resort at Kaprun. All within a 20 minute drive.
The snow in the area is excellent at the moment which bodes well for Easter. The benefit of having such a range of height (from 650M right up to 3000M) means we should be able to find decent conditions each day.
This is what it looks like today at some of favourite spots, here, here, here, and here, And the Ice bar will be open on the Glacier too.
Can’t wait. The apartment is right in the centre just across the road from the pool and spa. The kids are old enough now to bugger off into town by themselves so my wife and I will be stripping off and getting hot and steamy (in a nude but strictly SFW way) then out for a cold Steigl and schnitzel or Germknodel
It has felt like a long. long time coming. I think I may weep slightly as I descend out of Munich towards Salzburg and see the Alps start to rise up.
Sorry for the glurge, but I can hardly contain myself.
Skied with all my wife’s siblings and spouses on Saturday as we celebrated my SIL’s birthday. Nice that we’re all still able to ski a full day as we hit 60.
Just got back from Canada. Big week. Snow was good, not great, but avalanche danger was at an all-time low and we skied some seriously steep lines. Wednesday we got into a couple of 2000’ shots of breakable crust and that really put the hurt on. We ended up with 130,000 vertical feet and after the 14 hour drive home I could barely move! Need to be in better shape for next year.
The oldest member of our group was 78 (I’m 54), and he crushed it!
Three off the charts powder days at Jay Peak. Snowing all day on Saturday made for some excellent coverage after the rains last week. We woke up Sunday morning to 22" total, with more still falling. The first run of the morning was like nothing I’ve had in the East. Endless thigh deep untracked all the way from the top of the lift to the bottom. The trees were skiing SO GOOD. We stayed for Monday as well, got in a half day of deep snow and no lift lines before heading home.
