2024-25 Ski and Snowboard thread - Expensive but cheaper than therapy

In MT we have gone (in a week) from cold smoke powder at 0F to 40 degrees, rain, and 60mph winds. Give me back my powder!

Absolute Hero Day today. Big soft bumps, cold, so I had to wear my Awesome Sweater. Got a few comments on that! Coulda been the most vertical of the season. I’m wore the F out!

Had a great spring day at Bolton Valley VT this Saturday. Temps were warm, sunny skies, soft snow. Started with some backcountry, then skied the trees all afternoon and into the night. But man, the season was coming to a close quickly. Still a decent base, but lots of dirt showing through.

Took a few runs Sunday morning, but they couldn’t groom much overnight and the ungroomed was awful. Since we’re flying to Montana this weekend for a ski area wedding there wasn’t much need to grind out more laps. Anyone ever skied Teton Pass Resort?

I’ve driven past it on the way to Salmon… They’ve been getting good snow and you’re getting there before the big warm-up next week.

Had a great 2 days at Bridger Monday and Tuesday–a foot of dense new, not too many people. Supposed to be nearly 70 next week!!!

The wedding is at the ski area on Monday, I think it may be during the start of the warm up.

My bad–I was thinking Lookout Pass over on the ID border. I have not been to Teton, but they’ve got a decent snowpack Cite. Are you flying into Great Falls?

Yes, the major metropolis of Western Central Montana.

Over the last 5 weekend we have had a lot of snow in The Wasatch. Alas between moving house, work and the flu I have missed it all, so hopefully I’ll get up both Sat and Sun. My legs have gone jelly like so Monday is going to hurt!

How was it?

Strange here–didn’t freeze Sunday or Monday night. Skied yesterday and it was decent until the sun came out. Because it hasn’t froze the snow hasn’t corned up, so when the temps rose it turned to shmoo–you could barely move it was so sticky. It did freeze last night, but it will need a few cycles to turn to corn.

The conditions were, um, interesting. There was a few inches of heavy, wet, sticky snow which made for difficult turns for most folks. We got rental skis which were a bit narrow for the conditions - people who brought their own gear had wider skis which made life somewhat easier.

But we had fun, the human slalom under the lift was pretty hysterical. It rained/snowed all day but not enough to interfere with skiing. The mountain is nice, we would have liked to explore more but you really could only ski where people had tracked up the slopes; anywhere else was treacherous.

It takes a bit to get used to a chairlift with no safety bar. And the sticky snow made getting off the chair a challenge, especially the midstation ramp. The drive up the road was slick in the morning but just slushy by evening when we headed down. The crew at the mountain was great, all wearing multiple hats and it resulted in a wonderful wedding celebration.

And no one got hurt!

I came across this article and thought about @Gatopescado - is this the place you once skied?..

Yep. That’s it. I think I posted the story on The Dope years ago…

Made the commitment to drive the 3.5 hours to Jay on Friday night and was rewarded with a powder day Saturday. They filled up all the parking lots and had to turn away cars, so there were some lift lines, but the glades were about as good as they get for the end of March.

Unfortunately, Saturday night’s forecast was freezing rain and sleet, which probably will bring an end to all the smaller and more southern resorts in New England. Many already announced they are closing next weekend.

Meanwhile, The Sierra resorts are reporting 10" fresh over the last day or two. Snowing right now, in fact!

Nice !

Snowing here tonight after a very warm week last week, snow levels should drop down to 4000ft so it should be good annd fluffy up ant 7-10k . alas I have to work, no powder flu days allowed now.

Bridger reports 13" with more to come, but I’m getting cortisone shots in my neck this morning and a new water heater tomorrow, so I may be SOL.
