Oddly, CalFire’s website had that one fully contained at one point this morning, but is now (I’m typing at about 10:45am Pacific) reporting 0% containment, and that change happened probably about a couple of hours ago.
Yeah, the report I saw on that one mentioned “stopped the fire from advancing” and “0% containment” in the same sentence. I guess it was/is limited to the Santa Clara riverbed. My daughter lives about a mile from there.
Luckily, our current dog doesn’t care about fireworks, but I’ve had two others that it was so bad, we fled to Canada to avoid them on the 4th. Also, we had a fire right near our house due to fireworks. I despise them now. And now, they are setting off a metric shit ton New Year’s Eve as well. 
The 0% contained stat is from 11 hours ago. It isn’t a CalFire incident so I don’t think they have the most up to date status. I’ve seen elsewhere that it’s 100%.
I have dozens of friends in the area and they are reporting that it’s contained. Maybe not the best source.
I have a very profound loathing for the super-loud ones, “thanks” to idiots in my area who keep shooting them off ALL DAMN NIGHT on the 4th. Between the booms and the car alarms reacting, more than once my husband and/or I have had to miss work due to complete lack of sleep. My cats don’t like all the commotion, either, and I know from growing up with dogs that they tend to react worse to such things than cats tend to.

Apparently it was a BBQ. But yeah, it is time to ban non-professional fireworks in all of CA. Just over the border from LA county on 126 is the little town if Fillmore. Every 4th of July the town fills with firework stands- and the sales arent to the few local residents, it is to people in LA county.

Because I am right here, in SoCal. a buddy is a retired firefighter who is doing estimates, and giving us fire news- and I have not heard anything like that. And the news here is fire news 24/7. Well, that’s not what part of my post you quoted hence my confusion.
I agree that the Post is a less than optimal source, but the rest of the places discussing this video are local message boards or threads on Reddit and require sorting through a number of posts together the whole picture.
One way or the other, the video is clear. Jackasses were launching sky lanterns from Carpinteria beach and became defensive and belligerent when confronted. People like this get caught launching these things here in Santa Barbara all the time. What’s notable here is the context. Where we are in fire season, what’s happening in LA, and the idiots insisting they have ‘permits’.

Different places around the country have different building codes based on the problems associated with that area. California will focus on buildings made of bricks instead of straw or sticks. Might be a trendy place where computer printed cement houses are welcome.
I doubt that brick construction will be the standard, given the earthquake risk.
Sorry, it was a 3 little pigs reference. But steel roofing, cement clad siding and any other fire resistant construction techniques will almost certainly be incorporated into future housing codes after this. Insurance costs are going to drive these codes.
New fire just down the road from me: Little Mountain fire, at the 210/215 junction in San Bernardino. Forward progress has been stopped before it topped the hills and headed into houses by the golf course. No cause yet.

There is no outside wood on a CA house- the wood is inside, the frame. Even a cement block house will have wood furniture.
We have concrete roofing- which is getting common. Few of those house had wood roofs, only perhaps a few very old grandfathered in houses.
