2025 California Wildfire Season Has Begun

Wow, clearly the 3 little pigs reference went sailing over everybody’s head. It wasn’t meant to be literal but to infer better built housing and newer codes.

Not really a thread for funny ha has.

It wasn’t meant to be funny.

Good news!
My sister and family were able to move back to their house today, no damage from fire, just a lot of cleaning up all the toxic ash and soot that got all over. May have to discard several items that got too smoke-damaged but nothing serious, thank god!

They know so many people who completely lost everything.

That is great news! It’s got to feel a godsend to have a return to normal life for sure. I’m enthused since I was close to a firezone myself.

Could you get her on the news. We need this. There are so many stories about people finding the remains of elderly loved ones in a burned out house or dogs howling inside a burning house.

That’s great!

I doubt that being told that somebody else has none of those problems is going to make the people who do have them feel better.

And yet people are glad to hear someone is safe. Go figure.

I agree with @thorny_locust . There are for more people safe and with houses remaining in LA than those that lost houses or their lives. So, let’s not sugarcoat this and take away from those that lost their homes or lives. Leave the feel good stories to the morning news broadcasts where they have always existed.

OK but I’m not seeing the feelgood stories. I’m seeing stories that are haunting.

Can the insurance companies cover this many claims? This quote is only for State Farm. There’s many other insurance companies.

The reports I’ve seen are showing total destruction. Repairs aren’t an option. They’ll have to remove the debris and contaminated top soil. Bring in fill and then rebuild using the current building and environmental codes.

Gosh. This is worse than tornando storm damage.

There are 3,675,720 home in LA County.

But a lot of cars were damaged or destroyed. That isnt a big news item, however.

Insurance companies are themselves insured.so the risk is spread around. we might see it in rate increases from around the country.

For the repair cribbed from elsewhere:
n this photo, what you are looking at are Clecos. The basically act as mini vices to hold the pieces of metal in place while the other rivets are installed.

What is even more amazing is that the bending of the aluminum, fitting, drill up and matching of the pieces and rivet holes are almost always done by hand. if you look closely at the photos you will see that the holes are not uniformly perfect. It is a true skill and can take an entire career to perfect in its own right.

Oh and for one more level of difficulty, you also have to manually drill out all those rivets without damaging the underlying structure to get the panel off in the first place.

Eaton Fire 73% contained- they do not expect any more structures to be destroyed.

Palisades fire 43% contained. They think they have stopped the spread into Santa Monica, etc.

The winds have died down, but no sign of rain still.

Wow, there was more internal damage than I thought. Nice work even for a seasoned mechanic.

Yep… Probably not your typ. DJI drone that got hit

Eaton fire is 81% contained.

Palisades fire is 52% contained.
