As long as the controlled burn remains controlled.
Best of luck!

Could you do something about the smoke in Santa Barbara? It’s horrible today.
Yeah, we had pretty stiff winds blowing south this afternoon. I guess that’s why they felt it was a good time to set a control burn so far north of the main fire.
16 fires have started today, most of them due to lightning.
Things look bad on the California/Oregon border. Also a bunch of much smaller fires between Fresno and Sacramento.
Good time to go see a play in the outdoor theater at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival. In the apparently appropriately namned town of Ashland (which is not quite in the magenta zone).
If the wind is traveling in the right direction, there might be some stunning sunsets.
Actually, the air quality here in Ashland is good. We’ve been on a run of hot, muggy weather the last few weeks, and thunderstorms have been fairly common. Fortunately, the fires are mostly to the south, and we’re doing ok.
The fire named “Blue” is about 50 miles SW, on the other side of some pretty tall pointy things, and it is only a couple square miles, so far (0% contained). There is a fair chance Ashland will not be affected.
The dry lightening this morning and all day today in the Sierra foothills has not been good…
The gold rush era town of Chinese Camp near Sonora has had some houses burned. It’s going to be a long night here in Northern California.
Chinese Camp is on the way to Yosemite, part of the Mark Twain Bret Harte Historical Trail. The Kiwi Tavern there was a good place to stop for a drink or to grab a snack. Here’s a photo I took last September vs a pic from today’s CNN article:
I knew this was a possibility, because I’d been watching Dr. Daniel Swain on the Weather West Youtube channel.
even though I live in Oregon I like how he gives the big picture and he is sound on climate change issues.
Did someone in this thread recommend him? I’ve been trying to remember how I found him!
May not have been me, but I’ve name-checking or linking to him off and on for years. I’ve been following him since I think he was just a local grad student, running his website as a hobby. Big fan.
yes, I can see why, so thanks if it was you!
Here is the 133 page report:
Also recent: SoCal Edison has released a draft of a planned compensation program for those in the Eaton Fire burn zone. The draft lays out payment schemes for various damage and insurance scenarios.
The idea is that you can go for this one-time payout in exchange for never suing SoCal Edison. Of course, “The program does not constitute an admission of liability or wrongdoing, and the company expressly denies responsibility for the underlying events.”
They arrested the person who they think is responsible for the Palisades fire:
For the existing charges he faces “up to 20” years. Considering the amount of damage he caused, not to mention how many lives were lost, can we assume the charges will be upgraded?
These are federal charges. I assume the state of California will have a go with murder charges at some point.
The prosecution has a tough job ahead of them. They might have him dead to rights on lighting the New Years fire that caused no injury or property damage, but they also need to prove that the smoldering ashes of that fire ignited the disasterous Palisades fire a week later.
