What a ClusterF. Glad the Feds decided to ignore the police chief and get the job done.
Given today’s mini-camera technology they could have attached one to every window and monitored the situation in real time. I’ve been testing some of them on my house and the cost is almost nothing. I would expect law enforcement to be on top what’s available and how to use it. It’s not James Bond technology. The school should already have had cameras covering each room, the hallways, and exterior views.
That NBC news article made me want to vomit.
All I can think about is those babies, those terrified babies

It’s a disgusting commentary that in this instance the much-maligned* CBP/ICE come across as the good guys.
* Sometimes unfairly, but sometimes deservedly (especially under the previous malAdministration).
Sorry, but no. You cannot assume that the narrative “two senior federal law enforcement officials” are selling is a fair interpretation of what happened. It’s a very convenient narrative for the Feds to say that BORTAC waited 30 minutes only because they were respecting the instructions of local officers, and then they heroically decided to defy those instructions and go in.
All we actually know is that BORTAC made a decision to wait 30 minutes. And with far better training than the locals, unless there are established protocols that they MUST defer to local law enforcement on tactics, I think perhaps they need to own that decision to wait rather than adopt a “just following orders for 30 minutes until heroically defying orders” defense.
Which is when a janitor with a key then appeared. I suspect it was the arrival of said key that was the major catalyst in breaching the room.
Agreed. The varying narratives coming from law enforcement—local, state, and federal—have actually been remarkably consistent in this one respect: they are all self-serving.
So, the entire cop brigade was basically defeated by a locked door? Seriously? One wonders how they catch any criminals.
Call in the janitors!
Modern military breaching teams always include at least two members who cross-train as janitors.

On another positive note:

An online fundraiser for the children of Irma Garcia, a beloved schoolteacher killed in the Uvalde, Texas, school shooting, and Joe Garcia, her husband, who died of a heart attack days later, has raised more than $2.5 million.
The campaign’s initial goal was $10,000. “100% of the proceeds will go to the Garcia family for various expenses,” Austin said.
As of Sunday afternoon, 46,400 donations were made, totaling $2,593,860.
And maybe another piece of relatively uplifting news (dare I say, alright, alright, alright ?):
[Well, they told me he was born there. But I really don’t remember]
McConaughey made an anodyne both-sides-ish statement that I wasn’t terribly impressed with.
Totally understand your reaction.
But – much as I armchair quarterback the LE response to the shooting – I’m not sure how eager I would be to take a hard position in something like this if I had as much to lo$e as McConaughey probably does (rather than the roughly $0.00 that I stand to lose as an opinionated keyboard warrior).
That’s very kind of people, most of whom probably never met either of them or even heard of Uvalde until earlier this week, but I’m sure the family would rather have them back. I also hope they get some good financial planning, because you know the sharks will descend once they find out about this.
It is heartbreaking. The youngest is in7th grade.
I am driving elementary students nowadays. I suppose there will be a fine book written on this slaughter in time. All our questions will be answered, all the loose ends tied up. I doubt I will be able to read it.

Man, cops will shoot the shit out of people sleeping in their apartments but have to ask permission to take out an active gunman at a school?
I’m done. This is just too for words.
