21-year-old fratboy Superdelegate; the statue of liberty is kaput, democracy is dead
Doogie Howser was young too! No rant about him being a doctor?*

*Yeah, I know he’s a fictional character but something tells me you might not be able to tell the difference.
For a real-life analogue, I give you Dr. Ambati, who graduated Mt. Sinai medical school at the ripe old age of 17.
That would require that I voted for him in either the recall election or the normal one for the following term. I didn’t.

:dubious: How likely do you really think it is that a Republican candidate would campaign at a psychedelic record store in the People’s Republic of Berkeley? Also, see above. I think I’m supposed to be insulted, but it’s all just so awesomely stupid.
You just reminded me about the RECALL. How ignorant do those new age crystal-rubbing Californians have to be to RECALL a governor just because he made some unpopular decisions? That’s just so EMBARRASSING for the rest of the nation. And then the circus where people like jugglers and porn stars were running for governor and actually being taken seriously by their fellow mutant CA citizens…how about we recall the whole “letting CA be a part of the USA” thing!!!
This is a weird thing to admit, but when I just read that I screamed out, slapped the computer monitor on both sides of its face, and started hyperventilating. Am I the only one who has a problem with BABIES making these serious decisions?
Aww, someone’s not handling their aging well. That’s cute.
I can’t deal with this. I need a mental health break or something.
Yes you do…

TLDR… - I love you. You are awesome. I want to copulate with you and make you bear a litter of my mutant babies. You make everything else I have read, heard, or watched in the last week make complete sense, and seem erudite. You make my world a better place. Thank you.

Hey man I agree with you it’s a fucked up state. I lived there during the recall and without question those people are the fucking dumbest in the pile. Still, it’s got avocados and Tom Selleck so I say we keep California.

Sure. See you in 2011.

I love your optimism.

I’m all for people using their education to further the country rather than wasting their education on working at Starbucks.

Oops, did I post that out loud?

I’m all for rescinding the franchise for jackass frat boys.

I’m also all for rescinding the franchise for suburban hipsters who only superficially reject the trappings of the same lives of privilege that spawned the aforementioned frat boys and wallow in oh-so-bohemian posing in their urban playgrounds.

Outraged semi-intellectual wanking is the new wearing a white belt.

Please go away. It is WE who need the mental health break from you. I cannot believe the incoherent rage that your threads bring on me.

Why, I banged the monitor and started to hyperventilate!

No I didn’t because I have a few friggin ounces of self-control.

I will pay you $50 to leave and never return. Mods, is there any practical way to enforce this?

If I am breaking the rules by making this offer, I will apologize and withdraw it.

Why does he bother you two so much?

At this point, there isn’t a “Fuck you” big enough. Crawl back under your fucking bridge, motherfucker, and don’t come out again until you find that third brain cell.

Wally Tango Foxtrot?!?

21 is too young to be a delegate to a national political convention?

I could see some room for debate if you were talking about a superdelegate who were 14 or 16. I wouldn’t agree with you, but I might agree you had a point.

At 21 in the US a person may:

[ul]
[li]vote in all elections in the US. [/li][li]run for all political offices in the US, save the Presidency. (Maybe the Senate, I’m not sure about that)[/li][li]enlist in the military. In fact he could have enlisted four years ago at age 7[/li][li]enter binding contracts[/li][li]marry[/li][li]divorce[/li][li]procreate[/li][li]start a company[/li][li]operate a deadly piece of machinery[/li][/ul]

All of which are things that I would hope people do with due consideration and deliberation. If, as you seem to be accepting as axiomatic, 21 is too young to be considered for any of these responsibilities, what do you suggest for the new age of majority? 25? 31? 35? 40? 50? 65?
I don’t like the concept of superdelegates mixed with the primary election process that is supposed to make the party’s choice the one handed out at the polling places, but that’s got nothing to do with whether I think any specific individual should be excluded from that position based on age. Either make choosing the candidate a popular contest, through the primaries, or say that brokered conventions aren’t the root of all evil. Don’t ride the fence like this.

Yeah, I’m actually moving in a few weeks and could use some money. Make it like $5K and I’ll vanish forever and ever. Until then, I love this place far too much to leave.

Whoops, I meant 17, not 7. :smack: My apologies.
