Okay, I’ll cop to that. I have a lot going on and am admittedly posting in haste. So I’ll retract that little bit of condemnation over how much liberal philosophies and practices and attitudes have contributed to the huge spike in crime that occurred starting in the immediate aftermath of the counterculture revolution and which none of you ever admit responsibility for, preferring instead to act like because it’s only recently begun to go down (probably as a result of get tough laws and increased gun ownership) all is hunky-dory. But those of us in the real world know that things don’t work like that and we continue to hold you responsible.
Let me put it more directly. All civilized countries (i.e.- first-world industrialized countries) have much lower gun violence rates than the US, and they also tend to have much more progressive liberal-leaning societal norms and governments, embodying all those things that Starving Artist thinks have “ruined” America, only a lot more of them.
Which is why his constant bleating wish to Make America Great Again is so pathetic and reprehensible, the glorification of those times when women and blacks knew their place, when anyone who admitted to being gay or a black man who approached a white woman would both be hanged from the nearest lamp post by an unruly mob of great and happy citizens living in the glory days when there was no Medicare, no civil rights, and few consumer protections, unions, or workplace standards.
Yeah, but except for all of THOSE things, it was a better time ![]()
That’s what I like about you-Your ability to make an apology sound even more bitter and hate filled than the original statement.
No, this thread has no point. Other threads about shootings weren’t pitting the shooter, they were pitting the kind of gun nuttery that you seem to like, judging by some of your posts on the issue. You’re a confused, brain-addled contemptible fucking moron not worth engaging with.
Please explain how the negatives of previous eras are inextricably linked to the positives and how the positives couldn’t exist without the coexistence of the negatives.
And then please explain how it would have been impossible to change the negatives of that era without simultaneously turning the country into a poorly educated, drug addicted and crime-ridden cesspool with all the negatives we have today.
And if you can’t, then STFU about how anyone who prefers a more civilized and well-behaved time only does so because racism.
Thanks ever so much.
Some of us don’t worry about a more civilized and well-behaved time because we live in more civilized and well-behaved countries i.e. not the United States.
If you were a good person instead of a muck-mired crank, I’d be happy to invite you to my country, but you’re not so stay the fuck out, please. Or at most bring tourist dollars but not guns, visit briefly, and then get the fuck out.
Most of the rest of you, I’ll welcome to Canada. Maybe even the OP if he ever smartens up, but I’m not holding my breath.
Sigh! I don’t know why I bother, but …
You’re the one claiming all the “positives”. The only indisputable positive of the 50s was the post-war rebound economic boom, much of which, however, happened against a background of cold-war military escalation, fears of nuclear annihilation, and environmentally reckless consumerism (it was fashionable at the time to gauge economic progress in terms of tons of raw materials consumed; the idea that there were long-term were environmental side effects never even occurred to anyone).
As for the perceived order in society, and mostly lower rates of crime, it’s amazing the way that oppression can create order. You see it all the time in dictatorships. You’re not going to have women protesting for their rights when they’re all in the kitchen pregnant with their fifth child, and you’re not going to get blacks all uppity when they’re afraid to come out of their shacks for fear of getting lynched just for existing.
There are also very important secondary factors – you disingenuously blamed “differences” in dismissing the successes of liberal policies in other countries even though most of them have socioeconomic conditions very much like those of the US, but in this case the advancing decades have created genuinely significant differences in major areas like the impacts of technology on the increasing awareness and increasing empowerment of the disadvantaged over such issues as economic inequalities.
Incrementally, the way that all other countries with progressive policies have done it, and the way that yours in many ways failed to do, mostly because of the increasingly dominant influence of self-serving brain-dead reactionary conservative troglodytes like yourself.
You’re welcome.
Wow, he has all the qualifications for a cabinet job with trump.
Gee, our old LaSalle ran great …
The Gentle Reader will note that I usually leave the board about this time each day, as I have obligations elsewhere. One wouldn’t want to be thought left speechless by the silly, exaggerated and generally ridiculous statements made by posters such as, say, wolfpup. More to follow later tonight or tomorrow if I can be arsed, and I probably can as I have a problem with allowing bullshit to lie uncontested.
You spend more time telling us how you don’t have time to address points than you do addressing them.
But it’s okay; nobody expects actual content from you anyway.
I gotta pee . . . I’ll be back in like five minutes!
CMC fnord!
Mister, we could use a man like Herbert Hoover again.
Nobody gives a shit.
wolfpup kicked your ass. You know, figuratively.
Indeed, I don’t know why anybody does. Starving Artist is a sad old man on this topic, and I hope never to become him when I get older.
Our greatest fear. Camped out in front of Faux News in pissed stain boxer shorts, dribbling and gibbering at the pretty parade of lies and nonsense. Fair-haired and unbalanced, the pathetic end to sad lives.
And in the ultimate tragedy,* he’s only 26 years old! *
Well, not really, but wouldn’t that just be awful?
So it seems that she purchased her weapon legally.
In a state with some of the most prohibitive firearm restrictions in the country.
Well she sure deserves a pat on the back for that one!
