24 Year Old Wins $2.4 Million On Slot Machine: Her First Trip To LV!

According to this MSNBC article, a 24 year old Hawaiian woman, on her first trip to Las Vegas with boyfriend and family to celebrate the memory of her grandmother who used to love to come to Las Vegas and play the slots, won $2.4 million on a Wheel Of Fortune slot machine - and she only played $16.

As much as I would liked to have been the person who won, I am happy for her!

Anyone want to bet that there isn’t a dime left in two years?

There’s not much information in the article so it’s hard to tell if she’s a gambler or not. Being a babysitter at 24 and giving money away aren’t good signs for her financial future though.

I better know this girl.

Did the boyfriend propose yet?

I’ll bet against it.

I’ve often heard the claim that lottery winners usually end up blowing it all, but I’ve never seen any objective, believeable evidence it’s true, and I suspect this belief is based on a few high-profile anecdotes. You don’t hear about the ones who stash half the money away in an interest-bearing account.

I should have mentioned in my OP that more than likely, she will only be getting about half of that amount ($1.2 million) in cash, otherwise I believe it is paid out in yearly installments - over 20 years, maybe more (I will look at the fine print on the machine next time I go to the casino).

Super large jackpots on machines like that are just like winning the Lottery - paid out over time, or else you get about 50% of total paid out in a lump sum.

So, considering her age, she might have been wiser to get it paid out over time, in which case, she doesn’t have to worry about paying her phone and electric bill for a very long time.

Jackpots under $1 million are usually paid in full, but over that can be iffy. I know Caesar’s has a policy of paying out some larger amounts in full, but most of the other casinos follow that lump sum vs. yearly payouts - especially for machines like Wheel Of Fortune that are hooked up together, in multiple casinos throughout Nevada.

Still, a nice win and I should be so lucky to have to decide how I want it paid out.

grandma was watching over them.

nice win.
