The trailer for “28 Years Later” has been released, and it’s a masterclass in the art of trailers. No big spoilers (except maybe?*), just intensity. Unlike “28 Weeks Later,” this one is again directed by Danny Boyle and written by Alex Garland, which gives me hope.
The poem being recited is “Boots” by Rudyard Kipling about the Second Boer War in South Africa. It’s a 1915 recording by Taylor Holmes which is evidently used for psychological training in Survival, Evasion, Resistance and Escape (SERE) military school.
*About that maybe spoiler, which is just speculation but would be a major spoiler if true: Cillian Murphy is rumored to be in the cast. There’s a brief shot of a zombie rising out of a field of flowers, and internet sleuths are convinced that it looks like him.
I really couldn’t tell what you meant by this, until the poem started. Holy crap is that creepy. I don’t know anything about SERE, but it would drive me to insanity.
As to the emaciated zombie being Cillian Murphy, the zombie kind of seems like someone made it to look like him but I didn’t read further to verify. Maybe it’s some demented homage.
Very interesting. Just as the author admits, I also had to play the trailer several times before the visuals even made an impact (Zombie Cillian notwithstanding). It almost makes me want to see the film but it sounds like it’s only used in the trailer and the the movie itself doesn’t appear to match the tone and creepiness of the reading.
In any case, you are absolutely correct about this being an outstanding movie promotion; thanks for sharing it.
I don’t understand how this is going to work. Rage zombies are not… undead, they would just die. They don’t have any self preservation, they certainly can’t farm or make food in any way. Once the easy pickings are gone they’d simply die off. Amazing trailer though.
I assume the story is that the authorities believed all the infected died off, there’s a return to relative normalcy and then a new wave of infections starts.
The dessicated zombie rising in the field suggests they aren’t subject to normal human body functions any more. But there’s also speculation that the clip is a dream sequence, included in the trailer specifically to mess with people who think it’s Jim/Cillian.
Well that’s a little jarring. Clearly he’s found a way to capitalize on his unique build, yet being approached for a movie because you look just like the undead the director has in mind feels like a mixed blessing. I really thought it was a mannequin, possibly made to resemble Cillian.
Also, even the poster is extra creepy. Something about the spine still being attached to the head makes it that much more chilling.
Someone really has a knack for creating scares.
