2nd Opinion Please

I am not sure if there is a definitive answer on this, as I suspect it is more stylistic than anything else, but I would like a second opinion on these two sentences please

  1. If the tape was not delivered to XXX according to the arrangement, the supervisor should alert the respective department.
  2. Some of the work is tedious, yet has limited value add to our customers

I think (1) should be “…should have alerted”, or alternatively “…has not been delivered…”

for (2) I think that “yet” is used to contrast the two phrases - but I “kinda sorta” expect tedious work to be of limited value.

So what says the collected wisdom of the durp grammar nazis?

ETA - Hope no one saw the typo…

  1. If the tape has not been delivered to XXX according to the arrangement, the supervisor should alert the respective department.

  2. Some of the work is tedious, and has limited value to our customers.

Not sure what the “add” means.

Both are correct or not depending on context.

As written, #1 is correct if you are talking about a point in time when the tape already wasn’t delivered, and this is not in question; what to do about it is in question. This would make the most sense if evaluating or suggesting supervisor behavior rather than delivery person behavior.

As written, #2 does indeed suggest contrast, which may or may not be appropriate. It might be appropriate if, for instance, one might also say “Tedious work should be done if and only if it adds value” and we all agree that sometimes tedious work does add value. Which seems reasonable enough to me.

And I missed your typo. Your secret is safe!
