2Wire HomePortal Problems

I just got SBC DSL about a week ago. I loaded all the software and all was working on my desktop w/Ethernet cable and laptop w/USB cable.

I wanted to try to set up the laptop wireless and was having problems so I let my mother try to setup the wireless on her computer. Well she tried to set up a network on her desktop and my desktop. I do not know all the steps she took but she says she used the wireless network wizard on both systems. We both have Windows XP. She says she got connected and her computer did recognize their was a wireless portal but it said no signal and kept asking for a KEY. She finally gave up.

Well now my homeportal will not connect. As soon as I bring up the browser I get an error that the “Home Portal 1800 HG has intercepted the webpage because there a large number of internet sessions” and the browser (IE or Netscape) shuts down. This happens very fast and I had to preform a print screen just to be able to read the error. Is it possible that even though she did not fully connect that the network setting she had on her system or the network setting on my system somehow effected the Portal settings?

I did some reading and I have found that it has to do with peer to peer network and I am not sure what that is. My mother claimed when she was setting up the network on her desktop that it asked her if was peer to peer and she said yes even though she did not know what it meant but she claims that that same question was not asked when she was trying to set up the network on my system.

I also read that the error had to do with the firewall and I could change a setting in there as well not to send me excesive use messages but that just does not sound safe.

Has anybody had this error using a 2Wire Home Portal 1800HG? I am desperate as I can not even get to the internet and with 3 teenagers in the house this is like the end of Earth as we know it :frowning:

Any info would help. I am obviously not posting from my home computer but any suggestions you have I will print and try at home.
