3 grade books list

I am trying to come up a great list of books for my son to read. H reads at a thrid grade level and he just turned 5.

thank you for your thoughts.

Discussions about books usually do best in Cafe Society, so I’ll move this thread over there.

An easy way to find the titles to some great children’s books is to go here . This is the official site of the Newbery awards for children’s literature. It’s hard to go wrong with any of these. I was an avid and advanced reader as a kid and I remember seeking out Newbery winning books.

My personal favorites from the list are:
A Wrinkle In Time
Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH
M.C. Higgins, The Great
The Voyages of Dr. Doolittle

Also, I read the book E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial as a kid and loved it. I also read the sequel, E.T. and the Green Planet (I think that was its title). Not exactly literature, but they were exciting adventures and, hey, kids love E.T.

E.B. White’s stuff is usually good. Stuart Little, Charlotte’s Web, The Trumpet of the Swan are all good books that I read when I was younger.

I also recommend theThe Indian in the Cupboard series by Lynne Reid Banks, and the The Boxcar Children series by Gertrude Chandler Warner, as long as you stick to the lower-numbered ones, as they start to get bad later in the series.

What does he like reading? I take my kids to the library every week and let them choose. I don’t worry about artificial grade level reading level issues. Sometimes P the E chooses pure junk reading and sometimes he chooses very good stuff.

Take your kid to the library and trust them to choose stuff
