30 Day Song Challenge, number 23: a song that you want to play at your wedding

Well, I think still have the cassette that was played at my wedding somewhere around here. The best and most appropriate song off of it was I’m Sticking With You, by the Velvet Underground. The kind of love that will make you (well, at least me) get married has the simple purity that Mo’s voice has, with Lou’s lyrics hinting at the undercurrent of complex psychological interactions that makes people mesh.

We had our 18th anniversary this week, and her birthday is next week. The amount of love that I feel I need from her probably increases every year. I know that someday one of us will probably have to do without the other. Every year that gets more clear, and faithfool’s post before mine drives home the point to where I realize that day may always be closer than I think it is. I’m sorry that it takes your story to drive that home to me again today, but I thank you for it.

Now, if I were planning a new wedding today? I’d probably pick something a little less creepy because I’m more sensitive to the sensibilities of others now. Never Grow Old by Daniel Rateliff and the Night Sweats would be nice.

Trace Adkins, For the rest of mine.

Yep, it’s corny. But hey, if you can’t be corny at a wedding, I don’t know where! And the lyrics actually make sense for a wedding and it’s slow enough for anybody to be able to shuffle around in circles to.

The dance mix would be requested to include this one, for contrast and to help the bride stay awake.

Since I’ve already had a wedding and am unlikely to have another one, I’ll go with the song we did choose for our first dance as a married couple - “Tupelo Honey” by Van Morrison.

Tough choice between two made by my favorite band: The Church, Hotel Womb or Trance Ending. I like the wild things line from the latter, so I’d probably choose that one.
