$3200 at Dell.com! What the Hell was I thinking.

Talk about an impulse buy…

I was just sitting here bored at work and decided to browse around the Dell website and customize a “hypothetical” computer. One thing lead to another and I ended up buying the damn thing.

Anyone else have a huge impulse purchase like this recently??

No…but I salute you!!!

No. Only because I’m not working and it would involve looking for a divorce lawyer, but I sure would like to!

I’d love to hear about your $3200 computer. Are you a gamer?

If you really wanted to, you could cancel that. But instead, you posted here. I think, deep in your heart, you really want it.

This little boy did

I bought my Xbox 360. That wasn’t so much an impulse buy as it was a need. Madden had just came out!
So, is that laptop for monitoring the SDMB Myspace group or what?

I just bought a bar. Does that count?

Not me. My “huge” impulse purchases are usually along the lines of $75 worth of books. My last computer was only about $1500 and it was several days worth of thought to spend even that much.

I’ll have to rebuild it again and send a link to the complete system. I can’t remember everything it had on it, but I hope it was all good. LOL.

Wait, I just went to my email and here’s a list.

Plus I got a car adaptor, and a 100 dollar GPS thing with atlas software. I plan to get the Verizon wireless modem service too. I hope it’s fast!

I’m not really a gamer. But I did order Age of Empires III with it. I’m sure that will occupy me for hours. And I really hope that the computer is good enough or fast enough to handle any other games I feel like buying. If I find a really fun game, I will not hesitate to plug my laptop into my living room tv and sound system to play.
And actually, I have an HD Projector on a shelf in the closet that could use a purpose in life. Maybe I’ll use that and a wall for my screen when using the computer at home… or maybe I should sell it to compensate for this freakin laptop I just bought! (Anyone want to buy it?)

Yeah, I think it will be great! The problem is I already have a desktop at home that works fine. And my job has put me behind a desk right now, so I will be behind a desktop for most of the day for probably the next year anyway. So I keep thinking, “Do I really need it??” But I’ve been kinda thinking about getting a new laptop for a while. I’ve just been telling myself I dont NEED it. . .
But it will be nice to not have to share computer time with the wife!
I can’t believe how easy it was on that website. I clicked on the stupid Dell Credit thing just for the hell of it. I didn’t expect it to approve me in 40 secs. I figured it would take like a day or two and then they’d send me an email and by then I will not be motivated to spend that kind of money. But BAM! It was like “Here’s 4 grand, we’ll mail you the computer if you click this button right now.” So I did it.
I’ll just pay it off in like 5 months or less. I keep telling myself this will help my credit. I need to justify this purchase somehow. I could use a credit boost. It needs help!

Here’s a pic. God I hope I didn’t get hosed.

You won’t be hosed until you need tech support.

It sounds great! Best of luck with it.

I too was very unhappy with Dell tech support, but hopefully you won’t need it.

All that and you’re going to use a bare wall for a screen? At least go to the Projector People or some such place and get a proper screen. It’s a real treat.

The good news is that barring any disasters your laptop will be useful well into the next decade.

My turn…
The wife and I wanted to get a new entertainment center (ya know for the TV and stuff). I told her we need to look at ones that can hold a widescreen. When she asked why, I explained to her that our next TV would be a widescreen for various reasons. Now since she had never seen a widescreen TV, we headed over to the TV section so I could show her what they looked like. Now, we went in planning to buy an entertainment center for about one or two hundred dollars. We bought the entertainment center…and a 50 inch plasma. What do I win?

How the hell does grenadine mix with those liquors?!?!

If make a Tequila Sunrise, then quite nicely

If you need tech support, call late (around 4:30 PM or so EST) on a Sunday. That seems to be your best chance of getting what appears to be a non-outsourced call center – in any case, they’re not just reading off a script.

Nice notebook, by the way. (I have a Dell Inspiron 6000.)

I see a couple Vodkas, a couple Gins, some Vermouth and a rum. You make your Tequila Sunrises very different from mine.

Hmmmm, looks like a Herradura on the bottom there. On first glance I thought it twas a vodka. I stand corrected.

After a few of my Sunrises, you might be not be standing at all
