321 Studios and DVD X Copy Gold

I really wanted to put this in the Pit, but I’ll save that for one of the judges.

Apparently this company has been shut down in the US. It was software that allowed you to make backup copies of DVDs. I realized how convenient this may be last week when babysitting a friend’s daughter. “Finding Nemo” is so scratched I had to junk it. Playing a copy for her to ruin would have been a better option.

Anyway, I’ve used it to make exactly 4 copies of movies that don’t even play in the home theater system, but play on the cheap bedroom player. I bought the goddamn software last year for $120. That’s $30 per movie saved from children’s carelessness.

Now I have a glitch in the software and there’s no tech support in the US. All the phone numbers have been shut off and the website looks like it’s in bankruptcy.

Does anyone else use this product? Is there anything that can be done? Please post any legal remedies or help. E-mail anything “else” you might know of.

This is one of the better forums:http://dvdxcopy.afterdawn.com/...but perhaps you should think of letting the $120 go and start using other software…as sooner or later DVD X COPY will break and no one will be able to fix it.

good luck.

Sorry screwed the link.

The best website for what you’re referring to is…

www.doom9.org

DVDShrink is a fantastic and free product.

Thanks for both the links.

Based on what I saw in the first one, is it possible that it could be as simple as the firewall in XP SP2? Or anything else that SP2 had?

Note to mods: I put this here because it involved computers, DVDs, and software. Please move it if it should have been in GQ.

Also check out www.videohelp.com… they have step-by-step guides for just about any video conversion or duplication you can think of.

I think you need to describe what’s happening. Also note that if you need to reinstall, you only have a limited amount of installations, before you need to get a NEW key and that’s not going to be happening.

Time to start planning the switch.

DVD-Shrink has yet to fail me.

That’s all I’m saying.

Thanks for that tip, it seems to work very well. However I think I had a demo of Nero earlier so it won’t let me use it. Any other dvd burning software I could look for? Otherwise it’s (dread) something wrong with the burning part of the drive.

::shudder::

Sorry. I use Nero. I’m careful when I install it so I don’t have to go through what you’re going through…
