from what I’ve read on it based on the protest calling for Netflix to remove it

its about a mafia boss who has kidnapped a woman and gives her 365 days to fall in love with him … and I guess there’s a bondage tint to it… To me, it sounds like a riff on “beauty and the beast”

Is there a real romance to it or is it just cringe? ? like he’s loved her since he was 12 but couldn’t talk to her or something like that?

I don’t know about bondage … I think the uproar was because the hero of the movie holds a woman against her will for a year. And that she does, in fact, fall in love with him. Stockholm Syndrome notwithstanding, it’s a pretty offensive premise.
