Pros:
Branca wasn’t totally victimized.
The addition of Bradley Cooper to the cast.
Excellent one-liners “Sit in the back, your mother and I have to talk.”
Playing hangman during the debrief.
The twists and turns - usually I am good at spotting killers and accomplices. This episode? I was WAY off.
The slap.
Fun fact: the actor who played Laney is Vera Farmiga’s (Branca) husband!
Cons:
Wouldn’t the tape Creegan found without a warrant be inadmissable?
Who the hell surrenders by handing over a gun pointed at their victim?
Stupid Rivers… “tap that ass” and shooting Laney.
From the beginning, Laney seemed vaguely creepy. I thought he was actually the hangman. I wasn’t too shocked to find out he had a connection.
I agree that with the way Creegan found the tape, it would be inadmissable, but they used the info to get Laney to pretty much confess anyway. Laney handing the gun over barrel first ended any problems about not getting a search warrant.
I really like the way Creegan is played, and how he sees things from a diiferent angle than most people. It’s a great show. All in all, this was my favorite episode as well.
It’s a good thing Touching Evil isn’t on FOX, or it’d be toast by now.
You mean the rest of them were worse than this?
I decided to check it out for the first time. It lost me when the cops just sat and watched the guy strangle the girl in the warehouse. Talk about evil! Why in hell didn’t they shout, “Police! Stop right there!” Maybe it doesn’t save the girl, but keeping quiet and letting him continue sure as hell wasn’t going to save her, either. If he knows the police are there, then maybe he stops; there’s absolutely no reason for them not to identify themselves.
It was also idiotic that the guy rummaged through the man’s desk without a warrant. The suspect now can walk free. The case would have been thrown out of court in an instant; I doubt a prosecutor would even take it to trial.
Finally, when the women cop has the gun on the perp – shoot him in the knee! He’s already broken into her apartment; she had the right to fire. But she dithers until (big surprise!) he grabs her gun.
It was also as clear as sheet glass that the reporter was involved in this.
Really, really stupid. I see no reason to watch again.
Don’t take me wrong, 'cause I love Robson Green, but I prefer this new Creegan. My only qualm is that he needs to be a bit edgier. He’s too apologetic. I see the episodes still have that semi-misogynistic/condescending way of treating women that a lot of British cop shows have. Creegan’s actions were in micmickry of the actions he perceived that the reporter did-Good for the Goose, Good for the Gander. The “sit there and watch” action is quite real and I was surprised they did it. We are so used to the Hollywood version of “Freeze or I’ll shoot”.
