40th anniversary of Loving v Virginia decision today

40 years ago today, the Supreme Court struck down all state laws against interracial marriages.

Yay for progress! Down with bigotry!

Right on.

Wow, it’s almost hard to believe it was only 40 years ago that this finally happened.

I think I’ll drink a root beer toast to progress!

I was just a few days past high school graduation when the Loving decision came down. I didn’t know about it at the time, and I had no idea it was still illegal anywhere in the US to marry outside your race. I believed all that stuff was in the dim past.

Even today, some things are illegal for no apparent reason.
