Why don’t we have a phone number information service for cell phones? I understand that some people buy and get rid of these things as if they’re disposable lighters, but with so many people using them - sometimes to the exclusion of a house-wired phone company - I don’t know why someone hasn’t begun such a system. Is this a money making scheme waiting to happen? There are obviously a few impediments, but what the hell, isn’t this something we NEED? If they can stamp M’s on a thin chocolate shell, they can solve this problem. Can’t they?
Generally speaking, in the USA, the cell phone accountholder pays for both outgoing and incoming minutes of use. Therefore, the cell phone companies, not to be accused of lining their pockets, by default, do not reveal their subscribers telephone numbers, leaving that to the preference of the individual subscriber. Should a particular subscriber wish his cell phone number to be listed in the telephone directory and with Directory Assistance,i.e. 411, he may do so by paying a nominal monthly fee. (this last bit may vary by company.)
