$50,000 on Jeopardy!

<Hijack>

They tape one show a day? I thought most game shows did all 5 shows in one day.

As far as prizes go, it always bothered me that Jeopardy! has lower earnings that “Wheel of Fortune”, tho obvioulsy the former is tougher. (And it is almost as popular). Glad they doubled the amounts.

Oh, and I repeat my “I’m not worthy”

Brian

Hershey, Pennsylvania, I thought…

Holy farking snit! OF COURSE the one-day Jeopardy record holder would be a Doper.
Give 'em hell, Myron. I’m taping today’s show. You are my Short Duration Personal Savior!

Myron

Your Daily Double bet on “Rocks & Minerals” was awesome.

“Red”…leaves a red streak…Wow. Especially, had you missed it you’d have squandered an already hefty lead. Nice.

I dont like Jeopardy. Some (see: MOST) of the questions seem to hard for my 15 year old mind.

I used to watch it sometimes, learn something new.
I even got some questions one time
“This pro-wrestler became the governer of Minnesota”
“WHO IS JESSE THE BODY VENTURA!!!” I yelled at the screen.

Choosing the Wilt Chamberlain 100 point game isn’t a bad comparison, but it is pretty darn comparable. So, while you may not have known who did it, you did pick a pretty good record as your basis of comparison.
Wilt’s game = 100
2nd highest game (also done by Wilt) = 78
Rate of increase = 1.28

Jeopardy high score = 50,000
Jeopardy 2nd highest = 39,999
Rate of increase = 1.25

However, Wilt’s game of 78 occurred in triple overtime. Since Jeopardy can’t go into overtime, let’s throw that one out and go with the 2nd highest NBA score without the use of extra time. That drops the number to 73 (done twice by Wilt Chamberlain and once by David Thompson). Using that number, the rate of change becomes
100/73=1.37 which is less comparable.

A better comparison would be career wins in MLB:
Cy Young - 511
Walter Johnson - 417
Rate of change = 1.23

Mmmm, math and sports together rules!

Congrats, Myron. $50 large is no small feat.

I have to admit I stopped watching Jeopardy when the questions got ridiculously easy. The icing on the cake was the Final Jeopardy question about what company’s website was bluelight.com. Some idiot actually wrote WalMart as his answer.

Maybe I’ll start watching it again.

No, Sony-TriStar doesn’t tape one Jeopard! show a day. They tape five shows per day (3 before lunch, 2 after), two days in a row. Then they take two weeks off, during which contestant tryouts are held. The episodes are broadcast about two months after they are taped. So I am guessing that Myron’s shows were taped in early June.

Juanita - I definately remember seeing the one that you’re talking about but IIRC it was Kids Jeopardy. They make those questions alot easier, I’ve never gotten a wrong question on kids or celebrity Jeopardy (whereas I’m a bumbling idiot during some normal Jeopardy shows.)

DiMaggio’s 56 game hitting streak is to me the appropriate comparison.

Cy Young’s win record is marred by his loss record.

Cisco, I only wish it was kids’ Jeopardy! Trust me, it wasn’t.

Wow, I even found a cite! (Search for bluelight to find the relevent text.)

Ahh, now that makes sense!

Kudos on the 50K.

Congrats, Man Who!

Congratulations, Myron it took me 5 episodes to win $50,703 on Jeopardy! Of course that was under the old rules.

Man Who is Myron , what are your tips for successful ass-kicking on Jeopardy!?

(besides “be real smart”, that is)

-vibro, who thinks Col. Steve Austin ran the first four-minute mile.

Wow, and a fellow Minnesotan to boot! (Owatonna’s a nice town. I have a friend from there.)

Congrats!

I think Roger Bannister kinda beat him to the punch on this one, since Bannister ran the mile in 3 minutes 59.4 seconds in 1954 but The Six Million Dollar Man didn’t debut until 1972.

However, Colonel Steve Austin did run the first **one-**minute mile. Not bad for someone who also has an Apollo moon mission on his resume!

Ok, I’m a two-time champ (old rules), I’m from MN too. I guess I just HAD to post here. What does that make, four of us on this thread now? Let me ask you guys, have any of you bothered to watch Jeopardy since you were on it? I’ve seen it maybe twice in the four years since I won. For a long time I just couldn’t watch it. Maybe because I answered the same questions so many times about the show (What’s Alex like? Do they tell you what the questions will be in advance?)

Still, it was a lot of fun!

I didn’t see the episode, The Man Who, but did you at least plug the SDMB?
