This morning, while contemplating cosmic matters on my way back from the men’s room, a movie flickered into my mind, a movie I saw a long time ago.
It had a small group of men who got transported into a future time; the last remnants of civilized humanity were hiding out underground while mutants roamed the aboveground. The civilized men were lacking in manliness, which our heroes could supply, being from the barbaric twentieth century, and at the end of the movie they’ve begun to colonize the surface again.
The usual trappings: cheesy sets, busty girls in short skirts, and I seem to remember a giant spider. The lead man was some kind of name actor, apparently down on his luck at the time.
Anybody out there who can identify this one? (Am I being vague enough?)
Sorry I came to this too late – it does sound like World Without End, a film that always seemed to be on the local TV stations. It was in color, and at the end the good guys from the present build a bazooka to take carre of the bad guys.
Well, if I recall, Rod Taylor was considered for the lead in Planet of the Apes, but the suits thought Heston was better box office (or maybe they wanted an American actor). I never considered the coincidence of names before.
You’re not shopping in the right places. The last time I paid more than $20 for a DVD, it was for either a multi-movie box set or an entire season of a TV show. Movies like this are available for $5-10 all over the place, but usually in big bins of DVDs. We have several hundred movies in our collection, and a whole lot of them came from the $5 bin.
