Sixth: The Rate Your Music § SDMB 6@6 Poll Track Result Chart Link

After 118 polls: The fact that 7,874 votes have been cast by 325 different board members for 2,993 different songs still amazes me. Once again, thanks to everyone. I think the 6@6 is a pretty good resource for people who may wish to check out an artist they don’t know much about & get a basic idea which tracks are most preferred by the Doper community. Because of the dynamic nature of the music industry & the date the poll was run, tracks on some newer releases from artists that still recording are not included. As has always been our custom, if there’s a band you’d like to see a 6@6 poll for; request it – we’ll try & get it into the upcoming schedule. The majority of bands we’ve run polls on (and in the upcoming schedule) have been requested by other Café Society denizens.

Lastly: 6@6 Posting Guidelines
1st: Have a knowledge & appreciation for the artist(s) in the poll title. 2nd: Post your 6 favorite tracks from them. Cover versions are acceptable. Offshoot, projects, directly related bands (if no poll was announced for them) and duets are all fine – but only vote for a total of 6 tracks. Segue tracks (written to be adjoined to a song from the same album) count as one song (i.e. The Abbey Road Medley & many Zappa tracks). Try to be as accurate as possible when naming your favorite tracks. Most importantly: Due to the fact the 6@6 is confined to one weekly thread, If you’re going to vote for more than one artist please make a separate post for each artist.

Without further ado…Cross-Country Week:

Featured Poll #119: Ryan Adams (And/Or) Whiskeytown (For Only Mostly Dead & Treviathan)

Headliner Poll #120: Cowboy Mouth (Requested by elfkin477)

Supplemental Poll #121: Atlanta Rhythm Sectionl (Requested in 2003 by 5 time champ)

Additional Poll #122: Charlie Daniels Band (Whose Politics will limit the votes)

#122 Charlie Daniels Band

  1. The Devil Went Down To Georgia
  2. Still In Saigon
  3. The South’s Gonna Do It Again
  4. Long Haired Country Boy

How about some 60’s psychedelia or 70’s prog rock? Renaissance, ELP, Gentle Giant?

This here is my Ryan Adams/Whiskeytown Six (With which is solo or band work in paranthesis):

  1. La Cienega Just Smiled (Ryan Adams)
  2. Wonderwall (Ryan Adams)
  3. Easy Hearts (Whiskeytown)
  4. Don’t Wanna Know Why (Whiskeytown)
  5. 16 Days (Whiskeytown)

Far and away beyond all others at…

  1. Oh My Sweet Carolina (Ryan Adams featuring Emmylou Harris)

Oh, and I’ll second the Neil Diamond request, plus submit a Barry Manilow request.
Quit laughing, I’m serious.

John, you truly make some of the most attractive and comprehensive threads in the history of the Dope. Seriously.

Anyway, I have nothing to add to this one except I like the song “New York” by Ryan Adams, and a guy I went to high school with was the merchandise guy for Cowboy Mouth for a long time.

Also, can you do one on the Misfits sometime?

Top 6 by the Atlanta Rhythm Section (and thanks to 5 Time Champ for requesting same!):

  1. Who You Gonna Run To?
  2. Doraville
  3. Redneck
  4. Georgia Rhythm
  5. So Into You
  6. Not Gonna Let It Bother Me

Hell, I gotta vote in this one.

For Charlie Daniels"

  1. Devil Went Down to Georgia
  2. Long Haired Country Boy
  3. Drinking My Baby Good-Bye
  4. Simple Man
  5. The Legend Of Wooley Swamp
  6. The Devil Comes Back to Georgia

And I requested Merle Haggard way back during the Johnny Cash poll!

Wait 'til he sees I’m gonna vote for his favorite track by ARS (Another Man’s Woman) before he does. That Red Tape album set me back a few bucks when I first read his mentioning of it, and irt definitely earns a position at #1.

Gimme two other country artists you’d like to see whose names are from A->H and I’ll put em up with Merle up next week for seconding.

(Ironic your #6 choice could’ve been made during the aforementioned Johnny Cash poll. It’s a 3way collaboration between Cash, Daniels & Marc O’Connor)

ELP is scheduled as poll #129 in week 56: AOR week. Gimme 1 or 2 other prog artists from A->K (Caravan? Can? Hawkwind? all 3?) and I’ll schedule them with King Crimson & Gentle Giant.

Neil is seconded. It’s up to 42 fish to 2nd your Barry Manilow request and both of you to come up with a 3rd M.O.R. artist from A->M that would go together with Barry & Neil. (I can’t believe I just typed that)

I’ll put up your Misfits request for 2nding. I usually don’t post smilies, but if there was a humbled / flattered one available, I’d post it here: -> <-. After receiving an email from a 6@6’er last week, I’m considering the paring down the weekly thread.

Anyone have any objection to scrapping sections 1 through 6 and:

  1. Leaving the previous week’s tally results @: The RYM 6@6 Results List?

  2. Leaving out the names of doper’s who voted and displaying the # of votes here: Puple-fingered Doper List. Does anyone find the threads via vanity search anymore. Is it useful to include all the names in decending # of votes?

It’s no skin off my nads either way - but it’s been mentioned to me a few times there’s TMI in the weekly OP. Just lookin for feedback.

Charlie Daniels
6. The Legend of Wooley Swamp
5. Still in Saigon
4. Orange Blossom Special
3. The South’s Gonna Do It Again
2. Long-haired Country Boy

  1. The Devil Went Down To Georgia
    Ryan Adams (and Whiskeytown)
  2. Jacksonville Skyline
  3. Oh My Sweet Carolina
  4. Wild Flowers
  5. Tina Toledo’s Street Walkin’ Blues
  6. Amy
  7. Wonderwall

I did not realize until this minute how many of my preferred artists are filed under M, L, W, S and T… How about Mary Chapin Carpenter and Tom T. Hall? Or Alabama.

Yeah, but there was some rule or something about a limit of six picks for Johnny Cash, too.

Thanks for ARS and the email notification John. I am somewhat of a refugee right now. My house is Ok, or was when I left St Louis. But with no power, no a/c and 98° temperatures I thought it wise to leave town for a couple days. Glad you like Another Man’s Women, far and away their best tune.

I would like to second silenus request for Renaissance, but note R is in the second half of the alphabet, guess we’ll have to wait til 2009 for Annie & the boys.

ARS
6. Free Spirit
5. Neon Nights
4. Spooky
3. Champagne Jam
2. Georgia Rhythm

  1. Another Man’s Woman

CDB hate his politics, but hear he is [or was] the nicest guy you would ever want to meet
6. Trudy
5. Long haired country boy
4. South’s gonna do it again
3. Saddle Tramp
2. High Lonesome

  1. Devil went down to Georgia

Dude, you can tell just by looking that these threads take a good deal of time and energy, and I’d rather you pair it down to something more managable than to have it dissappear. Anyway you want to keep doing them is fine with me as long as you keep doing them. These are some of my favorite threads of all time.

I’ll stop kissing your arse now.

My Ryan Adams 6@6

  1. Photographs
  2. Nuclear
  3. Wonderwall
  4. Let it Ride
  5. When the stars go blue
  6. Memories of You

  3. The South’s Gonna Do It Again

ARS

  1. Another Man’s Woman
  2. Imaginary Lover
  3. So Into You
  4. Doraville
  5. Champagne Jam
  6. I’m Not the Only One

I’ll second Barry Manilow. As for other MOR artists to go with them: Bread? The Carpenters?

And as part of my quest to keep us from ever geetting past F, another batch of requests:

Badfinger
Barenaked Ladies
Pat Benatar
Harry Chapin
Tracy Chapman
Patsy Cline
Eddie Cochran
Joe Cocker
Destiny’s Child/Beyonce
Earth Wind & Fire
Missy ‘Misdemeanor’ Elliott
The Everly Brothers

I’d like to second Barenaked Ladies and Earth Wind & Fire.

Are you trying to summon me forth? If anyone on the Dope has seen Cowboy Mouth more times than me I would be greatly surprised.

Cowboy Mouth

  1. How Do You Tell Someone?
  2. Easy
  3. Uh Oh
  4. New Orleans
  5. Jenny Says

Don’t forget Helen Reddy and Olivia Newton-John!

OOps! Forgot
