7680x2160 (Dual 4K) Monitor. Opinions?

Anyone running two 4K displays? I’m thinking about buying two 40" 4K Samsungs tomorrow to run as monitors, replacing my two regular HDs I have right now. It won’t be for gaming. I’ll mainly be using it for multi-tasking; having a bunch of pdfs, Powerpoints, documents and web pages open, as well as email and that sort of thing. Will the icons and text be super small? Those of you who have tried it, or are currently using it, do you like it?

You can increase the icon and text size globally. My latest laptop arrived set to 150%.

I have two 4K monitors. One 27" Samsung in landscape mode and one 24" Dell in portrait mode. The Samsung has been temporarily replaced by a 34" Asus UW. I do most of my [del]Doping[/del] work on the portrait-mode monitor.

You’ll be fine with text and icon sizes as you can adjust the scaling in Windows. Right-click the desktop, select Display Settings and adjust under Scale & Layout. That said, you might find that 40" is in fact too large. And make sure that they support 4k at 60 Hz.

Hmmm… will you be using HDMI 2.0 or Displayport? You need HDMI 2.0 or better and Displayport 1.2 or better. You’ll need two ports on your PC as there’s insufficient bandwidth to daisy-chain. And there’s a hidden gotcha I learned the hard way: you need really good cables. Ones with thick copper wires. Especially if you’re going over 2 metres.

4K displays seem overkill for the types of uses you’re talking about.
And 40" is to big for many desktops.

My SO has a 4k bit smaller, I think 36", mounted on the wall over his desk. He has a wider than average desk, about 45" deep, and the display is awkward to use sometimes. The distances his eyes and his mouse have to move is very large. Using 2 of them will make those issues even larger. If you aren’t going to be sitting a distance away from the screen (like on a sofa across the room), be sure to try sitting in front of the store model, and making sure that you can actually see and get to the edges of monitors that big, when close.

My work system is dual Dell P2715Q 27" displays. I use them to edit 4k video, so they are a necessity. They’re very nice displays, and I haven’t had any issues with them.

I wouldn’t recommend 2. I would use just one, maybe a bit smaller than 40 inch, and use a side display or two.

You only have one fovea and seated desk position after all, you will find yourself only using one monitor while the second is wasted.

That’s insane. I already had two monitors, and I kept running out of work space. That was the point of upgrading. With two 4K monitors, I’ve essentially gone from two 40" 1080P displays to eight 20" 1080P displays. I love it!! It’s going to make research papers, powerpoints, and photo editing so much easier. Plus, it’s nice to have the ability to maximize a 4K video in one of the screens if I want. I love this new set up!

. Having two 40" allows me to use one 40" and up to four 20" side displays, though.

I got a great deal on the displays, too. They are 40" Samsungs. They were $349 each at Target, but Target will price match Costco who had them at $319. Plus I got an additional 5% off for using their Red Card. The sale of the two previous screens should help subsidize the cost as well. I’m super happy with the purchase and this set up.

Yea, but that slightly defeats the purpose of increasing desktop real estate. I played around a little with different adjustments and decided that 100% was not too small to read. That’s the other benefit of larger screens–the text isn’t too tiny at 4K scale. It’s like using a bunch of 20" 1080P screens, which isn’t too bad at all. And I retain the ability to zoom in to web pages as desired.

Right now I just have one monitor hooked up to HDMI (must be 2.0 as it is doing 4K at 60hz), and the other is DVI to HDMI (also pushing 4K at 60). The displays are identical. I was concerned that there would be slight differences in color or scaling or refresh or something using the different connections. But I see no issues. I will probably still upgrade the connections in the near future. I’m looking at deals on used Graphics cards right now. I might upgrade all of it. I’m sure that I am currently pushing my GTX 7-something to its limit. Probably going to shit out on me when I start trying to do real work.

This is one adjustment that I had to make–the mouse. On the previous setting, it took too long and too much movement to go from one side of the screen to the other. I just went into the mouse options and increased it’s speed to be comparable to what I am used to. It’s perfect, now.

I’m not across the room or anything. My desk is about 66" x 30" (rough measurement using a sheet of paper). The monitors fit perfectly toward the back of the desk, giving me plenty of room to work on the desk and view the screens. The screens are angled just slightly, similar to a curved display almost; leaving no overhang on either side of the desk.
