8:32PM Central time, 11/1/2024: Approximately 96 hours to go!

I remember going to bed not knowing the outcome, but pretty confident that Trump would lose soundly. I mean, this clown could never be president, right?

The next morning I opened my laptop, logged onto the innertubes, and was hit in the face with a gigantic “TRUMP WINS”.

My mouth didn’t know it could open that wide.

mmm

We were diving in Fiji for that. The briefing went: “The first dive will be an hour in duration with a maximum depth of 100’. The Americans may want to keep going…” We’re leaving for Fiji tomorrow. No repeats, please.

Your were not alone, my friend.

And every single one of those challenges will fail, just like they did last time.

I guess we’re just killing time for now, and have so many different parallel threads going already that this won’t be too much of a hijack, but I saw an anecdote somewhere (I think Reddit, but I’m not entirely sure - I don’t think it was here on the SDMB) that someone mentioned that this feels to them a lot like 2012.

I was 40 at the time and hadn’t been motivated to ever even register to vote (the ol’ “well, I’m in Texas so what does it matter”). I remember wanting President Obama to win, like I’d hope for a particular basketball team to win a random game I happen to be watching.

The commenter I’m referring to said they have a feeling that perhaps this will be like 2012 where there was quite a bit of tension and nervousness going into Tuesday night, but afterwards ended up being “well hell, what were we freaking out about that whole entire time!?”).

This is my view too. Unfortunately, I am also concerned that Trump may win legitimately. Boy will the Magats be surprised when Trump’s tariff policies lead to massive inflation and ultimately a depression.

I’m seeing online chatter about the existence of people, mostly white men, who are planning to vote en masse for Trump to prevent this. Has anyone else encountered this, or are willing to admit that they are a part of it?

Pssst…most historians believe we already have, and a gay vice president too.

Isn’t this just called “being a Trump voter?” How is this coordinated? Are they walking into polling places arm-in-arm? Coordinating their outfits?

Ive heard that before. But still it’s different than Americans electing a gay president.

In the event she loses, the American electoral system has spoken, and the will of the people is to have a bully arrogant senile dictator who will imprison minorities, weaponize the judiciary, and roll back 150 years of human rights.
The American Experiment will be officially over. Russia and China will take over as world leaders. And that will be what the people chose.

I’ve linked to this before, but in case you’re interested in thinking about options, try the “choose your own adventure” here https://whatiftrumpwins.org/

Exactly. This will go to Harris easily and it won’t be close.

I just feel numb. Worrying isn’t going to affect anything.
Whatever happens will happen.

The only way I’ll feel better is if Harris wins overwhelmingly, and the election is called early. I mean wins Florida, Penn, Ohio and Georgia with clear numbers early that hold up and just increase as the night goes on.

Trump’s bullshit team won’t be able to pull any shit with so many states.

I for one am hoping you are right.

I’d feel more confident if he had a better track record with his “pie in the sky” predictions in the past but yes, if he gets this right then he deserves some kudos.

“If a problem can be solved, there is nothing to worry about. If a problem can’t be solved, then worrying will do no good.”

So, as a long time reader and only recent replier (I had an SDMB account from a decade or more ago but apparently cant access it so I started a new one) can I just say this place is a deity-send? Just reading the postings on here has done great for my sanity as someone diagnosed with depression and anxiety and its spiked during this election season.

That’s literally all I wanted to say for now…

Welcome!
