8 of the 10 Richest Women in the World are Blonde

Since I’m dating again, I clicked on an obvious click-bait link titled “Top 10 Richest Women in the World” because, hey, I’d hate to overlook anyone in my quest for true love. It’s a horrible click-bait site with all the regular tricks to get you to click where you didn’t want to click, so I’ll post a broken link because I think we all hate these sites.
likesharetweet DOT com/shock/top-7-richest-women-in-the-world/
(yeah, the actual address say 7 women but the list is 10)

Anyway, mundane and pointless: at least 8 of the 10 are blonde.
I was not surprised to see a lot of blonde on the list, kinda surprised to see it was almost the entire list. I suppose I’d expect the most wealthy women to be from Europe and North America, so that helps blonde out the list, but I can’t help think there’s also some connection to the way first world societies seem to prize blondes most highly. I am not assuming that they’re all natural blondes, but that just adds to the “society prizes blondes” thing: You’re fabulously wealthy, you can be anything you want to be, what do you want to be? Blonde!

I say “at least” 8 of the 10 are blonde, because I can not find a decent young photo for either Liliane Bettencourt or Alice Walton. Bettencourt’s current hair color surely comes out of a bottle, and it could either be describes as “dirty blonde” or “light brunette”- I’m not sure. Couldn’t find a young photo of her to see what hair color she grew up with. Alice Walton seems to have a lot of dark running through her grey so I’m guessing she’s always had dark hair but, again, I can’t find a young photo.

Here’s the full list for those who don’t want to follow the link (I think this is in reverse order):
Holly Branson
Lydia Hearst
Ivanka Trump
Jocelyn Wildenstein
Donatella Versace
Elizabeth Holmes (this is who I think I’ll date)
Marta Ortega-Perez
Liliane Bettencourt
Christy Walton
Alice Walton

Somehow, when I post in Mundane Pointless Stuff I Must Share for some reason I get a lot of “what’s your point?”
Just to clarify, my pointless point is that I was not surprised that many of these women are blonde, but I was surprised that it was a high as 8 out of 10.

Carpet & drapes match?

I’m surprised someone used a statistically irrelevant observation as the basis of an OP.

I’m surprised that you thought this observation was worth sharing.

I’m surprised at the lack of Oprah on the list

Yeah. First thing I thought, too. Where’s Oprah?

ETA: Actually, it seems she’s “only” around $3 billion, so not in the upper vanguard of the elite.

Actually I am too.

Here’s the Forbes list. Looks like they are mostly blonde.

Black curtains. Polished hardwood floors.

Unlike the women on the list, she earned every bit of hers. The others inherited theirs or got it through divorce.

What difference does that make? Does she get some sort of special gold star for having earned it?

Of course she does.

Pssh, what a loser.

So what you’re saying is I need to put less effort into my career and more into my appearance and hanging out at rich guy places. I’m picking up what you’re putting down.

Yes.

Video relevant to the Oprah discussion

MOL, I think there’s a deadline or something as far as getting in on the ground-floor-type thing.

Yeah, I’m in my 30s now. Is my time up? I can totally pass for 29! Maybe there are some billionaire divorces out there…? Don’t crush my dream, man.

I love Bill burr, but his facts about lance are completely wrong, livestrong gave next to nothing to cancer research.:frowning: that was a part of the whe kerfuffle.

I suppose a little gold star must be satisfying to have, I’d rather have the cash though, I’m loony like that.

Meh. The observation aligns with some of my untested biased assumptions, and the matter is mundane and pointless enough that I do not feel compelled to actually test those biased assumptions.

Many of the women on the list inherited at least the foundation of their wealth.
I did propose (with no research or cites) that blonde women are more highly prized in society. Wealthy successful men may therefore be more inclined to seek out a blonde status symbol wife (no research or cites), therefore wealthy men could be more likely to have blonde daughters carrying on the blonde mother’s genes. Therefore: a disproportionate number of wealthy blonde women.

Then, of course, there are the divorced women who got the foundation of their wealth in a divorce settlement from a wealthy man who married a blonde woman.

As to the self-made women on the list (are there none? is that in dispute?), white privilege may work even better for blonde white women that it does for brunette or redhead white women: something that feels true to me but, again, no research or cites.

So, my observation, it would seem, remains statistically irrelevant.
I’m o.k. with that.

It’s a terrible shame that Oprah doesn’t have any money. And the extra respect she’s earned… pssh.
