8 Year Old Japanese Girl Plays Drums On "Good Times, Bad Times"

8 year old Japanese girl drums her way through Led Zeppelin’s “Good Times, Bad Times”. Just infectiously happy.

Gawd, the giggling at the end  Such glee

Stop the internet! We have another winner!

Ddamn, she’s good. Adorable, too!

Good stuff, I saw posted recently on another forum. (khaki shorts req:rolleyes::D)

Those sticks in her little hands certainly resemble the TREES Bonzo was known for.

Outstanding footwork too, but what do I know…I’m just a guitar player.

I meant " I saw THIS posted…"

Missing the “this” it sounds like I’m criticizing it being posted here too…or something.:smack:

I’ve never been impressed by people who can play a piece of music somebody else wrote, I’m impressed by the people who dreamed it up and wrote it, maybe that’s just me.

If you’re not impressed by her originality, can’t you at least be impressed by her acting ability?

I hear that alot, but most people don’t realize writing and performing are two separate disciplines, and not every performer engages in both.
Most people wouldn’t say they only admire choreographers and not dancers.

I’m just happy for a little girl who’s mastered a skill and loves it. Also she has a wicked right foot.

Damn. She could barely even reach the kick pedal and she nails those triplet stutters like a pro. Girl’s got talent. And the right attitude. Wow.

Plus she is having the most fun.

Yes, Bonham was the essence of many of LZ’s songs and this youngster missed the nuance of this one but… She’s frickin 8. This was impressive for someone that young. I bet she gets the subtle nature of songs like that in the near future and goes on to do great things.

And the giggles at the end should brighten anyone’s day.

I’ve never been impressed by people who feel the need to put down the accomplishments of others, just to make themselves feel better, especially when the person they’re putting down is a child. Maybe that’s just me.

She’s only good in the sense of being good for an eight year old - which is fine. This is definitely nothing impressive in the grand scheme of things. Actually, I’m not sure that this is something especially even that good for someone that age; people generally assume certain things are harder to achieve at a young age than they really are - there are numerous videos of people her age and younger all over youtube playing at about her level or better. If she’s having a good time I don’t think any of that really matters.

For another astounding example of child drumming check out this little girl. Despite the Youtube title she was only eight when this was recorded. She had worked on this song for a year with various teachers and was still nervous about being able to get all the way through it without a mistake and so had her mom there, which she knew would help keep her calm (mom’s foot can occasionally be seen in the video). She got through it flawlessly though and that’s the reason for throwing her hand in the air at the end. She’s 17 or so now and the standout player in the band she has with her sisters called The Warning.

No, she’s pretty darned good. I’m not easily impressed by the young musicians doing their thing type of videos, but, for an 8-year-old, this is really good. Hell, I think it’s solid for somebody twice her age. There’s not really a hell of a whole lot I could criticize about it. She doesn’t hit the drums with the subtlety an experienced drummer might, but she’s definitely feeling the groove. It all sounds fluent to me, and she hits the drums with authority, which I’m sure Bonzo would be proud of. And those triplet stutters in the kick are not a particularly easy feat for the feet. That’s a tricky rhythm. I think she’s missing an eighth-note ostinato on the high hat with her feet throughout most of the song, but so what. She plays it with authority and confidence and better than I’ve heard folks thrice her age play it. That’s one of my favorite Zep songs and one of my favorite drum parts.

This is much more impressive to me - on a completely different level than the drummer in the OP.

We’ll have to agree to disagree then - really it’s art so it can’t be quantified.

Actually if we’re going to get more detailed I think I agree with your analysis - the footwork is very good - I’ve seen only seen only one other young drummer able to play like that. As far as the rest of it goes she’s not doing anything technically really difficult but she is playing with authority - which is on par with several other drummers I’ve seen. That doesn’t mean she isn’t good, they’re all very good I believe.

On the other hand, you have the eight year old girl in the Starving Artist post that completely blows me away; I have never seen any videos of someone that young even attempting anything with that level of technical difficulty. The end part where she kind of turns into an octopus is extremely difficult and for most people requires a tremendous amount of practice and she plays it perfectly.

Ignore all the poopers. It’s a great video.
