80s foods

Yeah, that was it. Thanks!

I remember the candy cigarettes too—I think they were made by Necco, as they had that “white-conversation-heart” taste. Candy Cigs

Wasn’t Tab a big '80s drink? Also sugar-free Orange Crush, which I remember was heavily advertised with the song “Celebration” by Kool and the Gang in the commercials. Any diet sodas were getting pretty big in the '80s.

I remember Ribena, a British black currant beverage, being advertised during afternoon cartoons during a short period. You can still find it in British, Indian, and Jamaican grocery stores.

Super Mario Brothers and Legend of Zelda both had breakfast cereals, that came in the same box (there was a partition down the center of the box).

And finally, I don’t remember ever hearing about ranch dressing until some time in the mid-'80s. Was it a new invention?

The ultimate wine cooler for “preppy” people was, of course, California Coolers.

Pan Pizza from Pizza Hut was also quite a craze in the 80’s. Just thinking about all that grease flowing over the side makes my arteries harden.

Especially Personal Pan Pizzas! Our elementary school had a program called “Book-It,” where you had to read books and write up mini-book reports, and you’d get rewarded with certificates to redeem for Personal Pan Pizzas from Pizza Hut. Then again, the same elementary school rewarded Honor Roll kids by having everyone walk to a nearby McDonald’s for a free lunch including a SUNDAE!

Sheesh, and they wonder why kids are obese!

Sure there was, but it was called “bait” back then.

The Hidden Valley site claims that the “Original Ranch” dressing was developed during the late '50’s and early '60’s. By 1972, the Henson family (whose Hidden Valley Ranch was popular among University of California-Santa Barbara students and other weekend guests) sold the business to The HVR Company.

Mmmmmm, walleye sushi. Howbout a few raw crappies in a maki roll.

Fried sticks of just about anything: cheese, zucchinni, mushrooms, meat (and I’m not talking about that glory that is chicken fried steak). Maybe it was a Dallas (I lived there from '77 until '89) thing but I seem to recall having consumed a bunch of “deep fried spooge” during happy hours of the 80’s. Anyone remember 2 or 3 for 1 HH at Steak and Ale? Don’t ever tell me I don’t know how to have a good time.
