Ran into a copy of All the right moves, starring Tom Cruise and Lea Tompson, and its been a while since I seen the movie. Now I more or less identify with the secondary characters in the movie that actually had to work in the foundry and steel mills, and the ones that get laid off, than the kids actually looking forward to the rest of their lives .
Now I have to decide between Lea Tompson and Phobe Cates for the most awesome chick in the 80’s genre, I was never really all that thrilled with Molly Ringwald.
Well, IMHO, Mary Stuart Masterson stole the spotlight from the hotness of Lea Thompson in Some Kind of Wonderful, and Molly Ringwald never did anything for me, but Phoebe Cates was an 80’s teen chick icon (cue Movin in Stereo)
I had a HUGE crush on Lea Thompson. Watched Howard the Duck multiple times. Recorded All the Right Moves off HBO so I could pause the tape when she got naked. Recorded *Space Camp *and watched it practically every day for a couple of months. Space Camp!
I almost had a combination 80s-movie/nerdgasm a few years back when they were going to land the shuttle at White Sands. Just like in Space Camp!!! But then it didn’t happen. Sadness.
I wore out my copy of “Real Genius,” also within the nerd/80s movie genre. When Val Kilmer jimmies the soda machine with a slice of liquid nitrogen… swoon.
I call a tie between *Fast Times at Ridgemont High *and *Valley Girl *for the greatest guilty pleasure movie of the Eighties. And both of the soundtracks rock!
I always had a thing for Lea Thompson - I don’t know, she just seems sweet. But for pure hotness, Phoebe Cates was it. Which would I pick? Sweet lasts longer, so if she is as sweet as I always thought, Lea.
