So Rysdad. Did you actually read the thread or just cherry pick the best post to suit your sense of outrage?
I’ll explain it to you, moron. The “topic” I am bored with is the completely insignificant and irrelevant bit of trivia that the event occurred five years ago. Who gives a shit? I don’t need to be reminded to care, why do you?
09-11-2021: My Granddaughter runs home to her mommy, Michaela, with the news: “Mommy, Mommy! Our kindergarten class is doing a 9-11 pageant, and I get to be Tower 2! Oh, and I need you to make me a costume.”
Interesting that we all remember “Pearl Harbor”,
how many remember the Panay or all those dead Merchant Marines floating in the North Atlantic at the hands of U-Boat wolf packs before Pearl Harbor?
Can anybody else say “Remember the Maine, to hell with Spain”,
or to bring it up to date “Remember 9-11, to hell with Iraq, Iran, N. Korea…
and do try to forget, what was his name again Osama Usama…”
CMC fnord!
This simply speaks to your heartlessness.
You needn’t explain further. Your “tough guy” persona is pretty well-known.
You’re still an ass.
And, Harborwolf…You did read the Dio’s quote, right? It in he expressed, precisely, his reason for starting this thread.
You replied.
I replied.
Do you not understand any of what you read?
I’d explain it in a language you’d understand, but I don’t speak chimp.
Chump.
Did you read Dio’s explanation? How about comprehending more than you needed to make a clever retort?
And how long did it take you to come up with the oh so witty chimp/chump bit?
You’re worthless. You can’t even be bothered to admit you were wrong. All you want to do is puff up with outrage and attempt to appear clever by hurling insults.
Jesus. Since when do people have to watch T.V.?
I’ll try to explain.
Yesterday, we marked the 4 +364/365 anniversary of 9/11/01 with lots of talk about 9/11.
The day before yesterday, we marked the 4 +363/365 anniversary of 9/11/01 with lots of talk about 9/11.
The day before that, we marked the 4 +362/365 anniversary of 9/11/01 with lots of talk about 9/11.
The day before that, we marked the 4 +361/365 anniversary of 9/11/01 with lots of talk about 9/11.
The day before that, we marked the 4 +360/365 anniversary of 9/11/01 with lots of talk about 9/11.
The day before that, we marked the 4 +359/365 anniversary of 9/11/01 with lots of talk about 9/11.
The day before that, we marked the 4 +358/365 anniversary of 9/11/01 with lots of talk about 9/11.
The day before that, we marked the 4 +357/365 anniversary of 9/11/01 with lots of talk about 9/11.
And so on, going back for five freakin’ years.
You bet I’m bored.
Yet you managed to struggle on. Ye Gods man! Do they not know how you have suffered?
I wonder if the many relatives who attended the various services feel differently than you?
I know a guy like you. From his self elevated perch he tosses about observations about how pedestrian the rest of the world is, and how it wearies him.
And he shares his sentiments.
Often.
Do you ever wonder if they wish that the government and the media would stop exploiting their dead loved ones?
I watch almost no TV outside of football and the World Series, but this stuff seems to find you no matter what medium you’re listening to. The indy radio station I listen to, which never does shit like this, was talking about 9/11 this morning on the drive in. And this evening, on the drive home. And it was on the Web. The only way to get away from it was to turn everything off.
As they were attending the various services, many of them probably don’t feel much need to watch them on TV. Because they attended. In person.
Somewhat more seriously, I think there is a huge difference between attending a service related to your personal loss, and turning on the TV and seeing the film footage over and over and over again, in the event you have been living in a cave and somehow missed it previously. I would (possibly) not be so “meh” on all the media coverage if it were more consistently insightful media coverage. I watched a little bit of the more local coverage, which makes more sense to me. For the glurgier stuff, I deal by not watching it. However, the difficulty with not watching the news is that I would not be opposed to seeing news about other, well, news, and that is difficult to find in the 9/11 frenzy.
I flipped past one program and paused for a few minutes because I was so amazed – “average Americans” were being interviewed about their memories of 9/11/01, and their memories were mostly about watching it on TV. So they were on TV talking about how they remembered watching TV. I’m not even sure how to process that.
Sure. I guess that is a good point.
I read. I understood completely. Dio was making another of his “I’m so bored because I’m so cool and people are wimps” statements.
Either that or he needs to get a life away from watching CNN.
Not long. Pretty quickly, actually.
Y’see, the thing is, I’m not wrong.
And, for what it’s worth, I think my chimp/chump depiction of you was much wittier than your labeling others as “monkeys.”
But I do have to admit to some boredom–that being with you.
Run along, sonny. You’re out of your league.
Please. Next thing you’ll tell me that I’ve been “pwned” and call me a n00b.
And now that I think about it, how exactly does that work? This is an internet message board. Do you have a higher wpm than me? Less typing errors? I bet your computer loads the message board faster than mine.
…
So, what exactly is your point?
Yeah, guys. But what if September 11 just happened to be your birthday? That’s true for the mother of a friend of mine who still feels guilty when she celebrates. So, originally because of her, I observe “Celebrate Life Day” each year on September 11. That is also a way of acknowledging the losses. Make it a point to value what survives.
And that brings me to my greatest concern. All of the wreaths and tears and genuine sentiments mean nothing if we don’t help those rescue workers who have begun to suffer from terrible respiratory illnesses.
Last night I heard the statistic that 2/3 of the rescue workers are showing signs of respiratory problems associated with breathing in the dust of a toxic combination of concrete, lead, asbestos and glass. Some have had trouble getting Workmen’s Compensation because of the amount of time that elapsed before the symptoms showed up – even though the coughing began immediately.
The Feds are going to provide some money, but only enough to last for about three years. This problem isn’t going to go away.
At the Pentagon, the rescue workers were required to wear masks that filtered the air. Only about half of the workers in New York had them.
Are these women and men any less important than the ones who died five years ago? Can’t we find our courage to do for them as they did for others? That makes a lot more sense than picking at the scab on the wound every year.
Let helping them be our yardstick.
Dangit! I missed everything! I didn’t see a single tower fall! Nothing!
At least I had this thread to dose me in 911 reminiscence. Thank you, Diogenes.
