9 year old cat with diarrhea.

Note: Cat is not mine and is at the vet right now.

My mom called to tell me one of the cats they’d gotten when I was living at home has really bad diarrhea. She dropped her off at the vets so she could start cleaning up the mess and so kitty could get some IV fluids.

The kitty in question is a 9 year old spayed female that is indoor only. She is UTD on all shots, has never set foot outside and their other cat is fine, no diarrhea or anything.

They have NOT changed foods, given her new treats and she is not the type to eat weird things ,she also is the only cat I’ve ever seen that DOESN’T hunt bugs.

My mom (the queen of cleaning up animal and human messes) has never seen a cat with diarrhea this bad.

Poor kitty! I’m sure they’ll do blood work at the vet’s which may pinpoint something. It could also be that the manufacturer of the food or treats changed ingredients or the kitty has developed and allergy or sensitivity to one or the other. Usually, if they’ve changed the packaging, they’ve changed the ingredients although that’s not always the case. If the blood work doesn’t show anything and the food isn’t suspected, I’d look at IBD.

They brought her home last night. The vet did two fecal tests, one for bacteria and “average” parasites and the other was sent to a lab for a more detailed analysis and they’ll get the results sometime between now and Tuesday.

Right now she is on an antibiotic just in case it is some kind of bug. I’ll ask her about the food.
