Where is the best place to find out what recalls a '92 Ford Taurus has? I’ve heard that the dealer is not the best place, as they’ll do the least they have to. Any help from the Teeming Millions?
They are required by law to give you a complete list.
I have done just that on my Mercury Sable, the same chassis as the Taurus.
It’s done via computer, and they do it fast and free.
Some items are optional, but they get reimbursed by the factory, so they want you to get the work done.
Have your VIN number handy, and they will ask for your current address, solely to have it on file for the next recall. They have sent me no junk mail.
Call your local Ford dealer. They are required by law to provide this information.
I had a Taurus from the first batch. It was a lemon. It cost me thousands of dollars of repairs, most of which occured 1 month after the warranty expired. I know of at least 3 recall orders, Ford was required to notify me, but they didn’t, and I ended up paying for all the free recall repairs.
Unfortunately, any recall orders on your car have long since expired, and you will have to pay for them yourself.
I just called them. They told me about the sub-frame mount safety recall, which will be free. I also checked the Office of Defects Investigation link, which is from the USDOT. It gives me the same recall.
http://nhtsa.gov/ is the parent directory, and will direct you to anything you need.
Thanks, guys.
