.999 = 2?

I remember reading at least two wonderful GD Threads about the issue of whether or not .999(repeating) was the same number as 1. I was sharing the issue with an actuary I know and I want to show him the thread online.

But, I can’t seem to find it.

Weren’t those GQ threads? They started off that way, at least…

I suspect that the problem isn’t the recent search engine changes, but the inherent limitations of the engine. Does anyone know if numbers are searchable?

Wait, never mind… here’s the most recent one, and from links in that thread, here’s two others.

That was searching GQ, up to one year ago, 999 in topic, and DrMatrix as a poster, 'cause I knew he weighed in on one of those threads.
