A.1. vs. Heinz 57

I don’t like either. My husband likes them both about equally. Then again, he puts ketchup on chicken, so what the hell does HE know?

Don’t like either of them, but do like Pickapeppa.

I never had steak sauce growing up (anything with sodium was not allowed).

I had it on some mediocre steak when I was around 25 and was just about floored! I now prefer it on any steak, even a good cut.

Edit: to say I prefer A.1.

To me is A1 is a sauce created to get you to put in on steak for those who don’t like the taste of steak by itself.

Heinz ‘whatever’ is a leading maker of what one puts on fries, some people expand this to burgers, hot dogs, eggs, and more. There is really nothing of Heinz that’s primary purpose is steak, but fall into the ‘and more’ category.

Slight edge to Heinz.

I use A1 as a steak sauce, but 57 as an everything sauce. (especially chicken)

It’s interesting that while there are a few people who have never tried either sauce, and just a handful who haven’t tried Heinz 57 Sauce, nobody who voted hasn’t tasted A.1. Sauce.

Oh, hell, I know I was…I don’t think I’ve even ever tried 57 sauce. :smack:

I like A1 and HP perfectly well, and that’s what my apparently slightly addled brain thought I was voting for.

I’ll use A1 on hamburgers sometimes, mainly because a Whataburger A1 Thick & Hearty burger is the finest burger on the planet. Never though will I use anything, not even my beloved Chimichurri, on a good steak.

But Heinz 57 I much prefer on chicken.

Last night was 2 hamburg patties with American cheese on a mound of Bush’s baked beans. A.1. was drizzled on top.

Yum!

I’d amend it to say “like the taste of *that *steak by itself.” I mean, I dig a good NY Strip by itself, but I’ve had some cheaper steaks that are beef, and are called “steak”, but that aren’t really in the same league as the more classic steak cuts. Those are usually improved with Heinz 57 or A1.

And… compound butter is almost always a good choice on a steak, high-end or not.
