I was saddened to read that AA Gill died. I first stumbled across his beautiful and sarcastic writing at a used bookstore in Prague, and have read much of his oeuvre including To America With Love. Not sure how popular he is on the SDMB but I think he had a column in UK Vanity Fair and The Times.

Had it happened a year later Happy Lendervender would have scored a point for 2017.

An extraordinarily good writer, but often an absolute arse of a human being. Adrian Gill knew that about himself, of course.

On reflection, it’s probably better to say that he didn’t always wield his wit and intelligence wisely, although when he did he was as good a journalist as anyone. It’s a pity much of it is behind the Sunday Times paywall.
