Methinks someone needs a small barn.
A place for you to praise the pig.
Got many outbuildings and a big ol’ barn. They don’t have heat. Cold as crap out there. Seriously I don’t need big lifestock. I get too attached. In the event of a zombie apocalypse I don’t want to have to eat Miss. Bossy. Mr.Wrekker is fond of saying Cat soup is gonna look good after about a week of eating stale crackers and grass clippings. Eeeekkk!
Deep fried okra, yummmm.
No, the sausage wasn’t imaginary. But you remember all those neighbors that don’t seem to be around any longer? And that chest freezer out back that you keep locked and never talk about?
There’s a part of me that really craves that kind of nature and isolation and, through necessity, the degree of self-sufficiency you have to have to live that lifestyle. The signature image of that life around here is the sound of a loon on a quiet lake at sunset.
But there’s another part of me that really loves and appreciates big-city amenities that are at least within reasonable driving distance, and lesser amenities that are damn close and convenient! Yes, I want total isolation and quiet privacy. I also want live theatre, IMAX, and fine upscale grocery stores, and I want them right next door, and I want them NOW! Oh, and gigabit Internet.
This explains, in a nutshell, why I’ll never be happy.
…the chores
…the stores
…fresh air
…Times Square…
Green Acres, we are there…
They’ve all been ground to sausages in Beckdawreck’s machine.
I just lurves me some of Farmer Vincent’s fritters.
That was cute – thanks for the smile! ![]()
Wolfman Jack is delicious.
Most of my rural S Arkansas family drove to Shreveport to shop or Little Rock. Both cities have Sams Club and a military base with a Bx & Commissary for shopping. My childhood hometown is only 22 miles from the Louisiana border
Easy to spot in Sams Club. They’d have three shopping carts filled and waiting to check out. One cart would be filled with frozen food. There were ice chests ready in the car to get it home.
I go to Texarkana on the regular. My doctor and diabetic nutrition center are there. In fact I’m going this week for a dental cleaning. I’ll shop while there.
Arkansas really is a small state. Which ain’t worth a damn if you’re outta ice cream on a random Tuesday night.
Ace, where did you grow up? If you feel like divulging. If not, no worries.
A little town a few miles from El Dorado. I’ve been in Little Rock since college.
Lived in Hope and went to grade school for a couple years. That’s 25 miles from Texarkana.
You like Bryces cafeteria in Texarkana? It’s been there since the 1930’s. Great food. I used to eat there anytime we visited Texarkana.
Yep. Been to Bryces. It’s been awhile. I bet I know the town you grew up in. I have large number of sibs and extended family all over S.Arkansas and E.Texas. I have 2 sisters and a niece in LR. One brother in Oklahoma.
My grandad worked in the oil fields outside El Dorado for over 40 years. Several of his brothers moved there too. The oil fields used to provide steady employment for a lot of people.
Have a good time even if it is to the dentist. OK, the REST of the time, anyway!
20,000 miles to an oasis…
That smacks of familiarty.![]()
Big ol’ Update:
The little Corner Country market is re-opening. I’m so happy!
Seems an outfit that has stores in many small towns and villiages has bought it.
Dare I?, I don’t even want to say it, I might jinx it…will they have the Bacon Sausage? I haven’t heard any news on the meat market, yet.
It’s simply sad what thrills me these days.
But…hey…YAY!!!
