Stoid’s mentality reminds me of the mentality I used to have in my late teens. So much so, in fact, that it’s almost scary. Cringe!

I read that piece. It sounded like pure-d quack-a-doodle to me, so I looked back to see if he was the same guy who wrote the infamous book. And so he was. If the problem with Taubes is that people oversimplify him as saying that calories don’t actually matter, then Taubes is the people in question. He at least posited a mechanism – that the body reacts to over-consumption of carbohydrates by over-producing insulin, which causes over-storage of fat. But he dodges the issue of where the energy is coming from on a diet with a mere insinuation that it must be muscle being canabalized, whereas there is a simpler explanation – people in studies under-report what they feel as personal failures in sticking to a diet.

What, you never heard of these?
